Septorhinoplasty Went in to have better breathing and more symmetry, by moving the septum to the middle. The result after the first surgery was bad. The septum did not stay where it had been placed and moved. Causing my right nostril to become more narrow, resulting in significantly reduced capacity. Breathing became infinitely worse Revision surgery was needed. The situation took another downturn. The right nostril is about 80% blocked permanently, the surgery intended on creating more space to breathe but resulted in far less space. This is resulting in frequent headaches, giving up certain activities. I am left with a bigger problem than I walked in with. Struggling to come to terms with this. How could a revision surgery result in a worse outcome? Doctor Jonathan Joseph couldn’t provide any meaningful explanation besides that it is an unfortunate outcome. He further tried to state that I had this problem of narrowness on the right side prior to meeting him however the medical notes and history prove otherwise. Quality of life has been impacted severely. I can’t recover between sets in the gym like I used to, I get terrible headaches and feel nauseous and frustrated, my breathing pattern very messed up, lots of resistance in breathing, whistling sounds and deformities. Took my money, and left me a lot worse off. Anxiety, suffocation and fatigue are ravaging me, I haven't smiled much since the operations. On other sites, it doesn’t provide me with an option to leave a review, which begs the question of how many others may have been badly affected. A third surgery is unfortunately needed to try and undo what Mr Joseph had done

I saw Jonathan Joseph for a Septorhinoplasty to improve the appearance of my nose. Jonathan is a warm and pleasant person. However, I would proceed with caution if considering Jonathan as a surgeon for cosmetic rhinoplasty. My cosmetic aims for surgery were to smooth and straighten the bridge, narrow the nostrils, and make the tip more refined and feminine. I was very disappointed with the results as some of these aims were not achieved. While the bridge is now straighter and smoother, the tip is over projected and the cartlige is asymmetrical. The nostrils are also at different levels. On review the surgeon said he could understand my concerns however there was little acknowledgement about how disappointing/upsetting this experience was. The consultation process was vague - and the digital images he produced on the computer promised a much better image than what was achieved in reality. I have regrets around having this procedure with this surgeon. The results have had a negative impact on my day to day life. I feel it is important to share my experience so that others will take great care throughout the consultation process to prevent disappointment should they go through with surgery with Jonathan.

Septorhinoplasty. Went in to have better breathing and more symmetry, by moving the septum to the middle. The result after the first surgery was horrible. I would wake up in the middle of the night with the feeling of suffocation, this went on for many months, with no improvement. In addition, after the first surgery, my right side became rather narrower. The septum did not stay in the centre and moved, how could this happen? according to Mr Joseph, the method he used failed. Revision surgery was needed... this only made the situation even worse. The nose is visibly thicker and the breathing turned from a minor issue into a full blown disability. I cannot breathe from my right side. This was never an issue before. I am suffering from horrible breathing, I get terrible headaches and become faint at times due to how messed up my breathing is. I feel I should be compensated at least £100,000 for the physical and mental toll this is having on me. I went in with a minor issue and came out with multiple chronic issues. My nose looks bigger and worse, my breathing is just ruined. I have no idea how this can be fixed. Mr Joseph knows very well that as a result of his intervention, my quality of life has been severely impacted. Just sad. I urge people to think very carefully before undergoing surgery with Mr Joseph. Mr Joseph won't hold any responsibility or accountability for the suffering I am undergoing on a daily basis since the revision surgery. He just says this is unfortunate.

I do not recommend this doctor because he did not achieve what was discussed during the consultation. Hence, I spent more money than should have. I could have chosen a better doctor to achieve what I wished for. Please do your research well before choosing this doctor.

Very professional, inciteful with an excellent manner. After 11 years without a sense of smell Mr Joseph performed an operation after which the sense returned. This is something I thought would never happen. Long may it continue & thank you very much.

Profile

I am a Consultant ENT Surgeon at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital. My responsibilities include the treatment of all forms of ENT disease both in adults and children.
I have a specialist interest in rhinological disease and I am the lead surgeon for sinonasal cancer treatment in my hospital. The training and experience I have gained allow me to treat complex sinus disease, both medically and surgically and I also perform nasal reconstruction to treat inherited and acquired nasal deformity.
Another aspect of my practice is to run specialist paediatric ENT clinics and surgical theatre lists.
I always work hard to deliver the highest level of care to all of my patients. My philosophy is that if someone has been referred to me for a specialist opinion, then I must provide the best possible care and management of their condition. I want the patient to go away feeling like I have tried my best for them.
I attend regular specialist meetings and keep up to date with the literature in my specialty. This ensures that I have the knowledge to deliver excellent care to all my patients.
Outside of work I have a number of interests. I am a keen cyclist and cycle to work most days from my home in Finchley, North London. I play in a weekly 5-a-side football game which is very sociable but also highly competitive! Most of all however I have my family. I am married with 3 sons which certainly keeps me busy but gives me great joy and pride in helping them develop and grow.
