I had a multi-level lumbar decompression operation on my spine by Mr Rath done on my birthday - what a present - I am now free of the terrible pain I had been suffering in my legs for a long time. I would recommend Mr Rath to everyone. He explained everything to me very clearly plus what could possibly go wrong. I was quite nervous about the operation but each time I had to see Mr Rath I felt more at ease. The treatment I received before and after the operation has been excellent. I was not very well the first night and the nurses were so kind to me, nothing was too much trouble. Mr Rath's secretary Maureen needs a special thank you as she too reassured me when I needed to ask her a question - or two!! I found all the leaflets and brochures given to me very helpful. The nurse doing the pre-op assessment was very efficient and it was nice to have my husband in the room with me. It was a lovely to surprise when Mr Rath came to the ward twice to see me to make sure I was progressing well. I have never had a follow-up visit from a surgeon before. I felt I could ask him anything as he was so approachable. I have mentioned to my GP that if any of his patients have similar problems to mine that Mr Rath and The Walton Hospital is the best to go to. I did appreciate that I could travel to the Countess of Chester Hospital for my final visit to see Mr Rath as it is a much easier journey for us. It is also good to know that, should I feel I need to speak to Mr Rath about my operation I could phone Maureen and she could help me to either speak to Mr Rath, or see him if necessary. Thank you very much for all that everyone in all the various departments has done for me at The Walton to make my operation such a success, especially Mr Rath.

This was the first doctor I felt actually listened to me and what I was saying about my symptoms. Left his surgery feeling better and also having a clearer understanding of my pain and whereabouts in my body.

From the moment I first was seen by Mr Rath to the day I was discharged from The Walton Center he treated me with the utmost of respect . He listened to me with my concerns regarding to the condition I had been diagnosed with and explained everything with the utmost of clarity to help me understand what was about to happen with my forthcoming surgery . He made me feel completely at ease and totally confident with the surgical procedure the he was going to perform on my spine . As a result of the MRI Scans on my spine Mr Rath has come across a Syrinx inside my spinal cord and evidence of a possible condition known as Ankylosing Spondylitis . I have since been referred by him to the relevant departments to investigate his findings . After my surgery I was taken to Caton Ward in the Walton Centre and there aren't enough words to thank the staff for the aftercare I received during the three days I was there . On the two days after my surgery Mr Rath telephoned the ward to enquire as to my progress and conveyed his regards via the staff he spoke to . This shows his true professionalism and genuine concern for his patients . I can't thank Mr Rath enough for the way in which he has dealt with me during what has been an extremely worrying time for me and even his secretary was very helpful on all the occasions I had to contact Mr Rath . I would recommend Mr Rath and his team to anyone who come under his care .

I recently had to have major surgery at the Walton Neurology Center during my clinic appointments I met 2 surgeons who both informed me that they were not advanced enough to carry out the complex surgery that my spine required one of those doctors told me that I would be sent an appointment to see a Mr Rath. I attended a clinic appointment with Mr Rath it was the first time I had met Mr Rath and I truly can not thank Mr Rath enough he has been absolutely marvelous from our first meeting in clinic to being discharged from the Walton Centre post surgery he has been totally straight, honest, considerate, caring, informative, unbelievably professional and very friendly Mr Rath quite simply is a credit not just to the Walton Centre for Neurology but to our National Health Service. I underwent 8 hours of major complex spinal surgery and Mr Rath took the time to explain the surgical procedure to me in detail, prior to the surgery he came see how I was on the ward on the evening after surgery the next morning at 7 am he came to see me again that evening at 7 pm he greeted my husband and son explaining what he had done in theatre my recovery needs all the do's and don'ts, his ward visits were very frequent usually 2 sometimes 3 visits daily he would ring the ward to inquire on my recovery and on the Sunday his day off he phoned the ward sister to arrange for me to have x-rays then assessed the results on his computer at home. That is the 100% dedication of a true professional who undoubtedly puts the care of his patients, the history of our NHS and his own personal pride and professionalism at the very top of his priorities. I was on Caton ward at the Walton Neuro Centre I must thank Lucy a young nurse who surely has all the attributes to become a ward sister she was very good and so caring to her patients ward Sister Sam was so efficient and very professional in all she done she dealt with my needs and discharge brilliantly. Some people are obviously ill in hospital and need attention but it was so clear to see some of the patients were treating the nurses like their own personal carers which is wrong but some nurses were asked for things and they were so busy then went on a break or had to go to borrow things from another ward and they would forget about the patients earlier request, I am not complaining far from it but it was clear to see the nurses are very under staffed and ill equipped basic things like having to go and take a drip stand from a patient to use elsewhere also obs machines are very short in supply and locker keys that fit it was so sad and frustrating to witness it was sad to hear people say other colleagues had left the nursing profession, thing need to change before valuable staff will be lost. Mr Rath is an absolutely marvelous dedicated and great surgeon I am delighted with the professional care I received any person reading this who is going to have surgery performed by Mr Rath relax your in amazing safe hands. Thank you Mr Rath Yours sincerely Mrs Lee Dunne (mobile 07826147536)
