I found that Dr Hughes treatment of myself was very open and honest. He made time for me and any questions/concerns I had were answer fully and he put my mind at eas. His 'bed side made' was very good and he had that personal touch both post and pre op which sometime can be missing. I would certainly have no hesitation in recommending him.

Mr Jonathan Hughes looked after my son in an amazing way. Johnny (my Son) said he was so helpful in explaining the operation and the best surgeon as my Son is doing so well after his recovery. For me he gave me perfect advice after the op too and that is key to Johnnys recovery. I also got a phone call from him 12days after op to see how Johnny is feeling that is exceptional what a fantastic man, very caring. Johnny feels so much better now his tonsils are out .

Mr Hughes was very considerate and took the time to clearly establish the reason for my referral. He was pleasant, reassuring and made me feel totally at ease particularly when conducting the examination of my throat which I had not been looking forward to. I would be happy to recommend Mr Hughes to any patient. Thank you. C Tyler - Appt date: pm 3/6/15.

Single visit lasting less than 15 mins, so difficult to accurately answer questions 1 based on so little exposure. In terms of question 2, overall I left the appointment feeling that what I presented with was checked thoroughly and good reassurance given with the option for a follow-up appointment. Although Mr Hughes was obviously listening to me during the appointment, he did ask the same questions several times during the session related to information I had already provided - e.g., "when did you last have the pain" and subsequently "when did the pain last occur" and then again "when was it last painful". This could just be his way of checking that he gets a consistent history, but it can give the impression that active listening isn't taking place. A better approach is to feedback to the patient what he's heard to check he's got the facts - e.g., "so the last time you had the pain was four weeks ago" and/or "if I understand you correctly there's been no pain in the last four weeks". All in all an excellent service in a modern and clean environment. The calming manner of the nurse who fetched me and remained during the appointment was also very much appreciated.

Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat / Head and Neck / Thyroid Surgeon

Jonathan Hughes graduated from the University of Bristol Medical School in 2000. His higher surgical training included placements at recognised centres of excellence, including The Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear, Imperial College, University College, and St Bartholomew's Hospitals.

During his ENT training, Jonathan was awarded the Royal College of Surgeons of England Research Fellowship to undertake basic science research into viral gene therapy for the treatment of cancer. Following ENT training and research, he completed two Royal College of Surgeons of England accredited fellowships forming the basis for his super-specialist interests. Following a Consultant appointment at Oxford University Hospitals, he was appointed as a Consultant ENT / Head and Neck Surgeon at University College London Hospitals and Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trusts in 2015.
