Single visit lasting less than 15 mins, so difficult to accurately answer questions 1 based on so little exposure. In terms of question 2, overall I left the appointment feeling that what I presented with was checked thoroughly and good reassurance given with the option for a follow-up appointment. Although Mr Hughes was obviously listening to me during the appointment, he did ask the same questions several times during the session related to information I had already provided - e.g., "when did you last have the pain" and subsequently "when did the pain last occur" and then again "when was it last painful". This could just be his way of checking that he gets a consistent history, but it can give the impression that active listening isn't taking place. A better approach is to feedback to the patient what he's heard to check he's got the facts - e.g., "so the last time you had the pain was four weeks ago" and/or "if I understand you correctly there's been no pain in the last four weeks". All in all an excellent service in a modern and clean environment. The calming manner of the nurse who fetched me and remained during the appointment was also very much appreciated.
