The actual operation went well and Mr Rogers and his operating staff were really good, kind and caring. At my 6 week visit he seemed really interested in how I was doing…..however I wish the surgeons liaised more with the physios. I think the surgical team would benefit from understanding the 'targets' set for the patients in our booklet we get on discharge e.g. knee bend after TKR surgery. I know the surgeons are the 'technicians' but follow-through after this huge and traumatic operation is essential for peace of mind and recovery. I was lucky I was seeing a hospital physio a week after my 6 week review, but I know many don't. This recovery is long….and I think we need to feel there is more support available….even on the phone. GP's are not the ones to ask about orthopaedic aftercare.

Before my knee replacement operation Mr rogers was very encouraging. He explained all the necessary details clearly, and gave me confidence. It helped to reassure me because he shook my hand and treated me as an individual.
After the surgery he came to see me on the ward to check that I was alright and to inform me that my pain was being controlled. He assured me that the operation had been successful and that my rehabilitation would start straightaway.
At my two after care check-ups he was again very encouraging and answered my questions fully. I have made a full recovery and am completely satisfied with all the treatment I received. I would not hesitate to recommend Mr Rogers for the excellent skill, care and support he provided at every stage.

Professor Benedict Rogers is a Consultant in Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgery consulting in Surrey and Sussex.
His interests include hip and knee surgery and replacement, knee arthroscopy, sports injuries pelvic and acetabular surgery.orthopaedic training and education.
A graduate of University of Oxford (Christ Church), St George’s Hospital Medical School (University of London) and UCL he has a breadth of international experience including clinical fellowships at the world renown Mount Sinai Hospital and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (University of Toronto).
In 2017 he gained his PhD in 'Optimising the outcome of hip & knee replacements'
He was trained by several eminent surgeons including Professor Allan Gross, Professor Hans Kreder, Professor Marvin Tile, Dr Joseph Schatzker and was the first orthopaedic surgeon to be awarded the Zane Cohen Fellowship Achievement Award by the University of Toronto;
He has a keen interest in orthopaedic training and education being awarded the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Orthopaedic Trainer of the Year in 2014.
He has currently published over 70 scientific articles, 10 book chapters, and has given over 80 presentations worldwide.
He is an editorial peer reviewer for following scientific journals, Bone & Joint Journal (formerly JBJS Br), Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery (JBJS Am), Clinical Orthopaedic and Related Research (CORR) and Journal of Arthroplasty.
