Dr Hamilton was simply brilliant. My father has some complex disability needs which results in his left hand being completely closed and tensed at all times. Dr Hamilton's humour and presence meant she focused on my father's welfare and immediate concerns with a bright and engaging sense of fun problem solving. Once the splint had been 'crafted' from what was to hand, she immediately followed up with a booking with the specialist who will be able to create a more permanent solution. Developed a huge amount of trust incredibly quickly, and a pleasure to have spent time with Dr Hamilton.

Laura Hamilton was excellent and the whole of Orthopaedics was clean, well run and a cheerful department. After some years of problems with my left hand I plucked up courage to go to my GP who referred me to Laura. She understood my problems and diagnosed Carpal Tunnel syndrome. She explained the operation and the possible problems in my circumstances and I felt really assured that she was going to operate on me. The operation day itself was really well organised and the team reassured me at every stage. I must admit I actually enjoyed the operation and seeing the hole in my hand prior to stitching! Laura was explaining what was going on and I felt very comfortable at all times. Thank you so much for treatment and I can now feel things properly and don't drop things. All healed and very little scarring.

I saw Miss Hamilton for lots of problems in both my hands which had been going on for years. She was very nice and listened to all my problems and we worked our way through all the different bits (wrist, thumb, little finger, numbness!) with a clear plan for each one. She was also friendly and I felt very comfortable telling her everything. You can tell she really cares about getting me better and making sure everything is tailored to what I want and need. She gave me injections that I thought I would be too scared to have but she was so reassuring it was easy. I trust her completely and have recommended her to my friends.

I receive complex tertiary referrals from all over the South of England including thumb base, wrist and finger joint replacements. I also manage major polytrauma cases involving massive hand and wrist injuries to nerves, bones and tendons.

I was appointed to the T&O Selection Design Group which Interviews and appoints all ST3 Orthopaedic Surgeons at a National level, choosing the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.

I have published research and presented internationally about hand surgery, as well as the advantages of improving diversity within surgery, and orthopaedics in particular.

I love to encourage and mentor junior doctors and surgeons. I teach on lots of educational courses and help trainees prepare for exams. I am also a Personal tutor and lecturer for Medical Students at Brighton and Sussex Medical School.

I take the time to get a detailed history and understand my patients’ unique concerns and needs. I love to draw pictures to explain a diagnosis and I work with the patient to come up with the best plan for them. There are no hard and fast rules in hand surgery, my care is always very patient specific.
