Consultant Surgeon in Trauma & Orthopaedics, based at University Hospitals Sussex in Brighton and Hayward’s Heath. Specialising in hand and wrist elective and trauma surgery. I receive complex tertiary referrals from all over the South of England including thumb base, wrist and finger joint replacements. I also manage major polytrauma cases involving massive hand and wrist injuries to nerves, bones and tendons. I was elected to the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, which overseas and guides 30,000 surgeons. Through this group I sit on multiple committees across NHS England initiatives as well as the Academy of Royal Medical Colleges. I was appointed to the T&O Selection Design Group which Interviews and appoints all ST3 Orthopaedic Surgeons at a National level, choosing the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. I have published research and presented internationally about hand surgery, as well as the advantages of improving diversity within surgery, and orthopaedics in particular. I love to encourage and mentor junior doctors and surgeons. I teach on lots of educational courses and help trainees prepare for exams. I am also a Personal tutor and lecturer for Medical Students at Brighton and Sussex Medical School. I take the time to get a detailed history and understand my patients’ unique concerns and needs. I love to draw pictures to explain a diagnosis and I work with the patient to come up with the best plan for them. There are no hard and fast rules in hand surgery, my care is always very patient specific.
