Mr Monkhouse did my Gastric Bypass on 12/12/12, I met him @ meeting with other consultant, and found his manner very agreeable, and both pre-op and post-op, he came to the ward for a chat, spent some time to listen and answer any queries I had, and if he didnt know, was honest and said so. I can not praise him enough, he does have a very 'easy to talk to' nature.

I met Mr Monkhouse for the first time, when i attended a clinic appointment to discuss my progress and potential weight loss surgery. Mr Monkhouse was very friendly and polite which put me at ease straight away. He was a good listener and listened intently as i told him my story of what i had achieved since the initial referal. He praised me for my hard work and discussed the different options, he discussed the options in great detail and i found him very honest. His communication skills were excellant. He offered my friend and i the opportunity to ask questions and no matter how trivial they were he answered in a non judgemental way displaying empathy and understanding. I left that appointment feeling so pleased with myself and excited for my surgery, he set a date for me there and then. I met Mr Monkhouse for the second time on the morning of my surgery, he once again presented as very friendly and polite. He asked how i was feeling and gave me another opportunity to ask any questions, he informed me of everything i needed to know making me feel calm and reassured. The morning after my operation he visited me on two occasions to see how i was getting on. He really is a nice professional person whom i am pleased to have met. Not only was my operation carried out by Mr Monkhouse a success, he also made the whole experience a pleasant one, its nice to meet a professional with such good interpersonal skills.

I first saw Simon in his clinic for a Gastric Bypass. My husband still had concerns about the operation due to the risks associated with it. Simon managed to break down the operation into easy to understand language whilst also putting my husbands mind at rest. His greatest skill is to listen to the needs of the patient and I was never made to feel stupid whilst asking questions about the operation and the after care expected. Once in hospital he took the time to reaffirm my understanding of what the operation entailed and was there just before I went into theatre. His after care has been second to none, being the first onto the ward the following day to check I was ok. After discharge there was several follow up telephone calls to monitor my progress and offer support if required. In all a reassuring experience and I would recommend anyone who are given the opportunity to have Simon as their consultant.
