Dr Ralph was lovely - welcoming and reassuring and listened to my concerns. All the staff at the Rapid Diagnostic Unit are simply brilliant - professional efficient and so considerate. Thank you.

I had the pleasure of meeting Miss Rolph at the Royal Marsden (NHS) hospital in Chelsea, London, in October 2020. She was part of my surgical treatment team. I met her for a final preop conversation on the day of surgery and again for my first post op consultation. Miss Roth showed a patient-centred care approach, interested in me and giving appropriate time for my questions, taking care to explain clinical and at times complex information. There was reassuring eye contact and open body language (despite the restrictions placed on us by COVID19 measures). In particular, I valued her calmness, empathy combined with professional objectivity when sharing some difficult results with me. Being a cancer counsellor / psychotherapist as well as a cancer patient, I am aware of the mental health and wellbeing impact the interpersonal element of medical consultations can have on patients. I left feeling well informed and cared for, taken seriously and treated respectfully. I felt empowered to ask questions and involved in my next treatment approach. Overall, this experience has helped to manage anxiety and negative thinking, which is such a common patient experience during and well after treatment. Thank you!

Rachel was completely wonderful with me. I am a young breast cancer patient (diagnosed when I was 25) and she listened to me, was sympathetic with me and incredibly helpful. She is working on helping younger breast cancer patients by providing them with the appropriate care and information so often not considered (I found most of the information to cater to older women) I really appreciated her respect for my situation and her help understanding aftercare. Thank you so much Rachel!

Dr Rolph is a delightful, extremely caring person with a tremendous human touch who also happens to be an extremely skilled surgeon, her acumen and expertise was demonstrated by the minimal scarring and post operative pain experienced by my mother in her emergency laparoptemy - a major operation to correct a scarred and bended bowl. We were all very worried because she had previously had a botched operation privately. Things could have not gone more differently with Dr Rachel Rolph at St Thomas'. Dr Rolph explained the procedure to us in great detail, several times. She assured us everything would be done delicately and with minimal invasiveness. Each step was explained, each risk, what do to with the after care and what to expect after the next few days following the operation. Her bedside manners went above and beyond anything we've experienced in the past - her explanations were detailed but in terms we could all understand, she was patient in explaining things that concerned us again and again. When Dr Rolph heard we had had a terrible experience previously, where my mother had a botched operation and was left in pain and infected with the surgeon going on holiday the following day with no contact, she gave me her private number in case I needed to call her after given she would be working in a different wing. Given all was going so well post operation I didn't message as I didn't want to take advantage - nonetheless she messaged me proactively to make sure all was going well and continued to do so, answering all our questions with great care until we left 10 days later. Her dedication and patience shinned through and it shows you that years and years of experience isn’t always everything in the medical industry; it’s skill, dedication, humanity and most importantly humility - all of which Dr Rolph has in abundance, what a treasure to find at St Thomas'.
