My mother had a 23cm bovine pericardial heart valve fitted on 19/10/2007 by Steven Livesay. She is now approaching 99 years of age in March 2024. She has survived for a lot longer than expected!

I owe my life to Mr Livesey. A brilliant surgeon whom I met at St George’s in July 2022. My operation involved a triple heart bypass procedure and mitral valve repair. We met before the procedures and Mr Livesey followed up with me personally during my rehabilitation. Words cannot express my gratitude sufficiently but I now feel so much better and am leading a full life. I would also like to praise the entire cardiac team at the hospital for their professionalism throughout.

I owe my life to this brilliant surgeon. In June 2019 I went into St George's hospital in Tooting for a mitral valve repair. Two weeks after I came home I started feeling unwell and gradually got worse. It turned out I had got an infection known as endocarditis. I was on antibiotics in hospital for 6 weeks then I had another operation by Mr Livesey which replaced my valve with a metallic one. I have felt great since the second operation and I own my good health to this wonderful man.

I have utmost admiration for this man, He preformed a double bypass, aortic valve repair and aorta root reconstruction and I have never felt better.He was very informative from the very first consultation, explaining the procedures required to repair my heart and the benefits of having the operation but also explaining the risk.The operation was a total success I have a very fine line scar on my chest, the leg where the vein for bypass were taken from has no scaring at all. I hope not to see him again but if I have to have heart surgery in the future I hope Mr Livesey is still available to perform it .

Steven Livesey performed a mitral vlave repair on my heart on 5 th July 2016. It failed to repair the prolapse and made the problem worse. In July 2017 he performed a re-do mitral valve repair which corrected and finally repaired the valve. Mr Livesey specializes in vlave repair which is a very difficult alternative to valve replacement. I think patients should be reconciled to this. The subject is very complex. Do not expect to understand and discuss the technicalities with Mr Livesey. You may trust him as an expert.
