Dr Israa firstly made me feel very relaxed and comfortable. She listened to what I had to say and was very thorough in her investigations and diagnosis. I would highly recommend her

I first met Dr. Israa Al-Shakarchi today (5th February 2020). What a breath of fresh air. Direct, excellent communicator, no nonsense, reassuring and blessed with a good sense of humour! She arranged for me to have additional treatment (preventative against any further osteoporosis, sent me off for immediate blood tests and told me that I might hear from the Day Surgery Unit about an appointment "in a couple of weeks' time".
I got home after my meeting with Israa and got a phone call half an hour later (!) and got my appointment in seven days' time. Fabulous service from the NHS all round and I'd like to believe that a consultant who is so respected might have something to do with the response.
Anyway, a great response and experience all round...

I had been seeking care for my diffuse joint problems and recurring fevers for over ten years when I was referred to Dr. Al-Shakarchi.
She took the time to ask a million questions, to really listen to what I was telling her, and was then able to make a diagnosis and come up with a treatment plan. For the first time since starting this journey, I feel heard.
Dr. Al-Shakarchi is very professional, but also has a way of connecting on a more personal level that makes you feel seen and listened to. She's firm and clear and great at explaining, and she immediately has the answer to any questions. I can't recommend her enough. She's truly amazing.

Dr Israa Al-Shakarchi deserves her excellent reputation. I believe that she has a genuine commitment to her patients and no matter how busy the clinic she gives her full attention and considerable skill so that you feel valued, a person, not a "condition". The Dr makes excellent notes so that there is continuity of care. I am much better and have a full and active life, confident that my case is being managed in the best possible way. I feel that I can confide in the Dr, discuss issues and ask questions and be taken seriously, respectfully. At the same time, the Dr has a lovely sense of humour, she is kind and encouraging. I believe that this empowers me to cope well even on the most difficult days and to look forward to the support of the next follow up meeting. With my sincere thanks.

Dr. Israa Al-Shakarchi has been a Consultant Rheumatologist for over ten years. She graduated in Medicine from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 2004, having previously gained an Upper Second Class BSc (Hons) degree in Physiology from University College London. Dr Al-Shakarchi went on to be awarded a Masters in Rheumatology with distinction from Kings College London, winning the MSc prize for the best research project in 2010. She gained the Royal College of Physicians Specialty Certificate Examination in Rheumatology later the same year. Dr Al-Shakarchi completed her training in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine in October 2013, and has been a Consultant Rheumatologist since 2013, commencing her current post at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in August 2014.
Having trained in the South London Deanery, Dr Al-Shakarchi has worked in world-renowned centres of excellence, including King’s College Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and St George’s Hospital. She is an experienced clinician with extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of rheumatological conditions including inflammatory arthritis, connective tissue diseases, vasculitidies, inflammatory myopathies, osteoporosis and soft tissue rheumatological conditions. She has expertise in joint injections and has run the injection clinic at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for several years. Dr Al-Shakarchi has presented her work at national and international rheumatology conferences and has several publications in scientific peer-reviewed journals.
Dr Al-Shakarchi is passionate about championing a positive patient experience, delivering improved clinical outcomes, using excellent communication skills and joint decision making with her patients. She consistently receives excellent patient feedback, and brings a wealth of experience to provide her patients with correct diagnoses and effective treatment plans.
In addition, Dr Al-Shakarchi has a strong commitment to medical education. She has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education (PGCME), and has received several teaching excellence awards. For the last seven years Dr Al-Shakarchi has been a senior member of the education faculty, as the Training Programme Director for the Internal Medicine Trainees, and the Royal College of Physicians College Tutor for Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. She became an elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in June 2018.
