Mr Batra is a superstar. After being diagnosed with bilateral hip avascular necrosis, he has listened to me and treated me with great respect. After surgery to my right hip , I feel I have got my life back and will be singing his praises for a very long time !

Referred to Mr Batra, quick appointment and diagnosis explained. Explained options and what would be best for me, due to age, decided to try and manage initially with weight loss and exercise. However deteriorated quickly and pain was debilitating for me, Mr Batra agreed to carry out total hip replacement. The options I had were explained fully and choice given. Speedy service by Oakland’s (within 8 weeks of decision being made) for operation. Oakland’s provided great care, I was extremely nervous and this was accommodated professionally by all. Hip pain relief was immediate, and 7 weeks post op I was walking 5 miles on a trip to Ireland (previously struggled to walk 1/2 mile) Scar is neat and healed very well. Physio given and important to complete at home for maximum benefits. Post op check 8 weeks with planned follow up in 4 months. Would recommend Mr Batra and Oakland’s.

I was discharged today, after 2 hips and a knee replacement, performed by Dr Batra. From our initial meeting, both my husband and I had complete faith in him....he explained everything in detail, taking time to answer any of our concerns, in laymans terms. The operations have all been a complete success...his follow up after care was superb. I was treated under the NHS....and I cannot believe that I have received such suburb treatment. Mr Batra has completely changed my life, and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending him 100%

I Have recently undergone a total hip replacement at Oaklands Hospital under the excellent care of Mr Batra, who I found to be informative, straight talking and very reassuring, putting me immediately at ease with his pleasant manner. The nursing staff were first class, always cheerful and caring, nothing being too much trouble. Phsio was extremely helpful and I am recovering well. I have no hesitation in recommending both Mr Batra and The Oaklands Hospital.

Felt his diagnosis was thorough and explained my options.Advised me to try the injections first but as it only eased the pain for a month and the knee was so bad advised the replacement but said if I didn’t want the op would discuss the options.I went for the replacement as it was getting more painful. The operation went well and I was off my crutches within a few weeks.with the help of physio advice I was soon walking and getting around normally in the day.The nights however I still have a lot of pain and stiffness as my knee locks in the one position. It was explained this was due to hip muscles needing to build up but it would improve.I was given an exercise to improve this. You have to be strict with the exercises and it is painful.I think it would be helpful if you could go to a group class at least once a week for encouragement so you feel your doing things right and are on the right path. The physios are great and explained everything you have to do but then you don’t go back for a month and you are unsure if your doing things right or progressing well enough.

Profile

I have been a Hip & Knee Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Salford Royal Hospital since 2010.

I perform Hip and Knee Replacement, Revision Hip and Knee Replacement, Arthroscopic (keyhole) Hip and Knee Surgery, including ACL reconstruction.

I see people with any type of sports injury to arrange diagnostic tests and organise treatment and rehabilitation.

I am one of few Orthopaedic Consultants in the region who has also completed their Sports Medicine Membership exams (MFSEM) with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. This gives me an unique insight into sporting injuries, training methods sports psychology as well as nutrition.

I am a keen runner and still run in the Vets Category for Sale Harriers with a marathon PB of just over 3 hours. I have played a number of different sports at a good level including badminton and squash for my University.

I am happy to see patients who have sporting ambitions at any level and are struggling to get back to their sport. You will get honest advice about what can and cannot be done.

I understand how important it is for you to be able to continue to do the sport that you love so much and I will do my best to help you achieve this.

I qualified in 1995 from University of Wales College of Medicine with Commendation. I did my basic Surgical Training (MRCS) in Manchester in 1998. I spent three years at the Manchester Medical School conducting research into how cells behave when human bone heals after it has broken, for which I was awarded my PhD. I started higher surgical training in 2003 and passed my FRCS (Orth) exam in 2007. During my training, I did the Bolton Knee Fellowship, Leicester Hip Fellowship and visited the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota to complete a Visiting Clinician’s Fellowship. I completed my MFSEM with The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2018.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile.
