I went to FGH for a meeting with Lorraine because I was worrying about what was going to happen in the future with my prostate cancer condition. All the literature I had received, when I was first diagnosed, was not helping me understand clearly what was involved regarding treatment. My wife, my son and I were greeted by a friendly and welcoming Lorraine, which immediately made me feel more relaxed.
She said she would talk us through, and explain, all stages of the procedure from when I had my biopsy to what would happen after my course of radiotherapy was finished.
Her 30 minute explanation was presented in a very professional and reassuring manner, in words a layman could understand, and answering any questions we asked with confidence. She made us feel we had been talking to a good friend and I left this meeting in a better frame of mind than when I went in.
I was both frightened and shocked on learning the full extent of my condition.
As the literature I had received about prostate was broad based and not patient specific I found the options for treatment read extremely harrowing if I read all of the booklet especially for someone who knew little about the subject.
The nurse was very positive and reassuring in all my questions and was throughly professional in our meeting not only in conversation but in her presentation when showing me the reports and results relating to my condition.
Dedicated and caring, nothing is to much trouble.
Also a very supportive colleague.
Took time to make sure I understood information given to me by consultant.
Was reassuring and informative
Lorraine has proved to be an excellent link between the services involved in the care provided. She listened and suggested options on the way forward as well as acting as an advocate with other agencies. Her support was positive but always with a sensitive, honest reply to all of our questions. I really appreciate this and cannot speak highly enough of her.
The only other comment would relate to the speed of response but I fully appreciate the complexity of the role, workload and difficulty with communication between appropriate bodies. Emailing her has improved this but again would not be appropriate for some.
