Mr Patel took me through my options and consequences of everything involved. I was treated with kindness and respect and given the best of care. Thank you Mr Patel and your team.

Vanash operated on my 85 year old aunt robotically and successfully. This meant no large wounds and no dressings to be changed - fantastic. He talked us through the whole procedure - the positives and the negatives and what might go wrong - thankfully nothing did. Everything went smoothly and at the follow up appointment he assured her that it was a smaller growth than expected and there would be no further treatment. Just a yearly scan. He put her mind at rest. Thank you. I would add that in the section below there is nowhere to put "I am a relative/next of kin" so please note I am not the service user/patient!!!

Whilst I have only been under his care for a short number of months, I have been repeatedly impressed and reassured by Mr Patel's patient care and 'bedside manner'. Explaining to a patient (AND their loved ones) that what you have found via scans or tests could essentially be life-threatening cannot for one second be considered a 'simple' or desirable task; different people will clearly react in different ways to such news and I cannot begin to imagine how hard that must be on a daily basis. With clarity and understanding, at no time bending in towards being in any way patronising or condescending, Mr Patel's approach on my own 'discovery route' (and subsequent/initial treatment) has left me both calmed and reassured throughout. I am always relaxed when meeting him as I know I will have everything explained to me clearly and with the minimal fuss. I am extremely grateful that Mr Patel has been assigned my case to date.

Mr Vanish Patel, an excellent Doctor. From me meeting him before my Hernia Procedure for the first time, he made me feel very relaxed and assured everything was going to be ok, as I was very nervous. He is very professional and polite. After my procedure when back at my room mr Vanish Patel popped in and saw me again, explaining different things I could experience through the night. The next morning at 7:30 mr Patel popped in and saw me again making sure I was ok. Very caring about his patients and very professional.

My clinical interests are in minimally invasive (robotic and laparoscopic) surgery for colorectal cancer and benign conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and diverticulosis. I also specialise in treatments for perianal conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fistula and anal fissure, as well as general surgical conditions such as hernia.

This was followed by two fellowships at St Mark’s Hospital London and the London Colorectal Fellowship (Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and University College Hospital).

In addition to my clinical work, I have wide research interests which have been established through my MSc in surgical science and a PhD both attained from Imperial College London. My research focuses on collaboration, leadership and mentoring in healthcare, which has culminated in numerous peer-reviewed publications in a broad range of surgical disciplines and international and national conference presentations.

I currently work as a consultant colorectal and general surgeon at Watford General Hospital and Spire Bushey Hospital.
