Mr Patel was kind, listened to my concerns and reassured me about my surgery.
The surgery went well and at my follow up he answered my questions and addressed my concerns.
His skill in his field has meant that my recovery is going well. Although I was very concerned about the surgery he was always patient with me.
I would like to thank him and all of the team at Watford General Hospital. All were excellent and all of my care has been exceptional.

My experience with Vanash Patel (my surgeon) was extremely excellent.
He was professional, and told me exactly what to expect, and how my surgery will go.
So far, he was correct, and made my overall experience in Bushey Hospital a pleasant one, not forgetting all the staff that made this whole process possible.
I would like to thank everyone involved on my surgery, as I was very nervous as I never had a general before.
I will not be frightened to come in again in the future.

Vanash and his team have and continue to be excellent and empathetic throughout my journey, Vanash performed a lower anterior resection- using robotics. The outcome was that I was up and about a few hours after surgery, and the recovery has been much faster than i expected. I would argue this is due to Vanash and his team first class care and surgical discipline.

My clinical interests are in minimally invasive (robotic and laparoscopic) surgery for colorectal cancer and benign conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and diverticulosis. I also specialise in treatments for perianal conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fistula and anal fissure, as well as general surgical conditions such as hernia.
I graduated from St George’s University of London in 2000. I completed my specialist surgical training in the North West London Deanery. This was followed by two fellowships at St Mark’s Hospital London and the London Colorectal Fellowship (Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and University College Hospital).
In addition to my clinical work, I have wide research interests which have been established through my MSc in surgical science and a PhD both attained from Imperial College London. My research focuses on collaboration, leadership and mentoring in healthcare, which has culminated in numerous peer-reviewed publications in a broad range of surgical disciplines and international and national conference presentations.
I currently work as a consultant colorectal and general surgeon at Watford General Hospital and Spire Bushey Hospital.
