By the time I saw Mr. Westerman I was struggling to walk. I was apprehensive when I realized I needed a hip replacement. Mr. Westerman and the hospital team made the process as easy as it could be and took the time to explain every stage and ensure I understood what I needed to do. At the hospital I was nervous about the anesthetic and both Mr. Westermann and the Anesthetist showed great kindness and took care to ensure I was comfortable. The operation was a great success I was back home within 2 days and it has transformed my life. 3 months on I can do things I have not been able to do for a very long time. I am very grateful to Mr. Westerman for what he has done for me and very appreciative of his skill and expertise that made this operation and recovery a success. I was very lucky to have been referred to him and his team. Nicola November 2022

Written by a private patient Mr Westerman replaced my right hip in October 2021. The whole process was brilliant from start to finish. Everything was explained in detail before the operation and Mr Westerman and his team were fantastic. I made a full recovery very quickly; people were amazed. I feel great now; it’s taken 20 years off me. I would definitely recommend him. Many thanks

Mr Westerman carried out my second hip replacement (the first was done under National Health by a different surgeon). I thought that because I am older and carrying more weight post-lockdown that this might cause issues, but the whole process went really smoothly. Mr. Westerman took great care to explain what would happen, and checked on me regularly before and after the operation. I was amazed that whereas first time it took me several days before I could slide my heel towards my help when lying down, I achieve this as soon as I returned from Mr Westerman's theatre! The rest of my recovery was equally speedy, and the wound healed really quickly as it was glued rather than fixed with metal clips. I was encouraged to be mobile and active (within reason) from day one, and now it's 7 weeks on and I am back in the pool and about to return to the gym for the first time in over 2 years. Thank you, Mr. Westerman, you've given me my life back!

I was in great pain and had difficulty walking when I went to see Mr Westerman. He knew what my problem was and explained what had happened to my hip with reference to my Xrays. Post op he came to see me several times during my short stay in hospital. He was reassuring and kept in contact with the nursing staff about my well-being. People I know, who had had a similar operation, were amazed how quickly I had recovered. Thanks to Mr Westerman!

Mr Richard Westerman has carried out two total hip replacements on me, the latest was in late April 2022. I was totally at ease after having a consultation going into the operation knowing what was going to happen. On the day, the theatre staff were fantastic there was no real pain with the spinal block injection or with the operation itself. Even though you are awake you remain comfortable during the operation. I was up and walking the same day. Post pain management has been good for me I just used co-codamol not needing any stronger pain controlling morphine products but they are available. For anybody a little nervous or concerned about this procedure believe me, it is far better than the pain associated with continuing walking with bone on bone hips. Dr Declan Whelan
