n February of this year I brought a cyst to the attention of my GP on the inner, upper lid of my right eye. They suggested that it is a chalazion and to try warm compresses on it three or four times a day. If it was still there after six months to contact them again and they would refer me to UHCW where the usual procedure is to drain/excise the cyst. I did this for three or four months but it did not drain. In October I saw my doctor again and mentioned that it was still there and that although it was not getting any bigger it sometimes made my eye water. Possibly because it is so close to my tear duct. Especially in the Summer when I suffer with various allergies. I was referred to ophthalmology and saw Senior Nurse Hazel Mercardo on November 4th. It was a strange appointment. She spent ten minutes explaining to me that my chalazion was caused by blepharitis, showing me photos of severe blepharitis and decided to prescribe me antibiotic eye ointment. She repeated the advice that the GP told me nine months earlier (warm compresses) and to leave it six months to hopefully clear up on its own. After listening to this I pointed out that she seemed to have diagnosed and worked out a treatment plan without even examining me. Quite a remarkable skill I thought! I had also already left it nine months before being referred and felt that I would prefer to have it removed. She then told me that there is a very long waiting list. I suggested that the sooner I was put on the list the better then as otherwise by the time I got it sorted it would have been there for nearly two years! When she did finally examine me she said that my eyes weren't as bad as the photos she had shown me. I also mentioned that the latest advice from eye specialists is to remove the entire blocked meibomian gland completely otherwise the cyst is likely to reappear. She stated that she had never seen or heard of this in all her years working with eyes and that I should be careful what I read on the internet. I pointed out that this was from modern medical research papers, not Karen sitting on the toilet with a phone! I left the appointment with the understanding that I would be referred to the surgical list. A few days later she rang me to say that my prescription was ready to pick up. When I asked about the surgery waiting list she told ME that I must be confused as that is not what was agreed! You would see me in another six months! I once again patiently explained that I wish to be put on the surgical list having already waited the NHS mandated six months before referral. Having left it a couple of weeks I checked with ophthalmology and as of yesterday I still haven't been referred to the surgical team. Quite frankly I feel that I have just been fobbed off! I've been given antibiotic cream when I don't and never have had an infection in the eye. I haven't even seen an eye specialist yet! At least not a doctor! Basically I have been given exactly the same advice as my GP gave me nine months ago which hasn't worked!

After 2 visits to the emergency eye clinic, and the most time consuming, terrible, atrocious visits to the Pharmacy, which is an absolute joke, and badly ran. Our recent visit was with Dr. M. Lane. Such a nice man, explained everything so well, issue, condition, prescription,s. Spoke to us so politely and looked at us, didn't turn his back( like the unhelpful chap at emergency). I actually changed my view today. If ever visit was as pleasant it could be a nice hospital to have to go to. Felt like you was a patient not a number today and alot quicker appointment and service.

Visited AE the guy at the door was very understanding . The dept was so busy had to basically stand for over 8 hours . It was full of relatives and the staff never tried to ask relatives to leave so poorly people could sit down . Some patients have 4-5 with them unacceptable . Doctors come speak to you in a busy waiting room as they have no rooms to see you elsewhere . Not private or confidential . Dirty toilets and rubbish in floor . Very cold as door is constantly open . Dangerous amount of wheelchairs are in there The doctor I saw was very nice and understanding and listened . The following day as I was there over 24 hours Sharon came onto the door she was rude to everyone and not caring . If you asked a questioned she snapped at you .

Ward 35 avoid at all costs, staff are hard, distant and uncaring. They have worked on that ward far too long. One incident where relatives came into see thier loved one and found them lying on excrement stained sheets and rough towels just starting to get a bed sore. The relatives asked the nursing staff for fresh sheets to make the bed themselves and the ward clerk passed a remark "Here we go more moaning from the great unwashed." Lots of unexplained falls of patients in the ward. Staff are supposedly monitoring patients, they don't they probably plonk patients on the commode and waltz off and leave the unattended which results in a fall and injury to patient. Then when you complain the staff come up with five different fabricated stories as to how it happened and then clam up until the PALS manager turns up to bully the relatives into dropping any complaints because the patient is at thier mercy and relatives had better shut up. NEVER EVER leave a relative who is mobilty restricted alone in that ward. Staff don't want you to stay but you don't get anything in that hospital unless you fight for it.

The hospital is dirty. I was told I had terminal cancer when I do not. There appears to be no sense of accountability from the team I am under and therefore I have reported this trust to the CQC. I have had an outpatients appointment today and after the way I have been spoken too I will no longer return to this hospital. Question absolutely everything they tell you.

Place is a dump. Staff can't be bothered to do anything but the bare minimum. You have beg them for help, patients are left to fend for themselves. Be VERY VERY vigilant if your relative is or long term ill or is elderly. Staff regard that they are a waste of thier time and effort and should do them a favour and shuffle off this mortal coil to give them an easy life and they are put on the death path. DO NOT leave an elderly or long term relative alone in a ward if you can. Lots of mysterious falls happen, you will come into visit them and find them injured and be told by staff "Oh that injury was there already, these people fall you know". One patients family brought in lots of clean clothes for thier relative only to find them on thier next visit later the same day to find them all contaminated with urine because a member of staff dumped contaminated clothing and pads on top of them. Wards stink of urine and excrement.

I attended CT scan area on 29 November. Was very nervous. The two young men who looked after me were absolutely fantastic, very caring and very thorough. Couldn’t wish for better treatment. I do wish I could name them. I was so relieved knowing I was in good hands. It didn’t seem so bad then.

The bouncer/greeter at A and E Sharon should know that customer service comes with a certain set of skills when dealing with people in pain and under duress. She doesn’t have these skills. Her aggression and lack of compassion reduced an 85 year old woman who was diagnosed with spinal cancer and pathological fractures to tears. She moved this lady, my mother, despite being told the back pain was excruciating. She then joyfully shrieked that she was off on holiday. No class, no professionalism, no compassion. She needs to be demoted. On the other hand, Shilpa, was excellent. Quiet, unassuming, calm but willing to help without fuss.

Unsafe, unprofessional behaviour and nasty, gosippy nurses openly laughing and rolling their eyes. Want to do minimal job, if you have anything to ask them they talk about you calling you demanding and then they treat you even worse thereon. Absolute hellhole. No consideration for consent, privacy, dignity. We need staff in the NHS but we must have standards. The CQC, Healthwatch and the like need to do some work here.
