Having experienced severe pain for nearly a year and unable to walk very far, and getting no helpful response from my GP, I was eventually seen by Mr Shah. He diagnosed that a total hip replacement was required. He also said that the pain would disappear after the operation. This was the result to my amazement and relief. I am very grateful for Mr Shah taking me seriously. 4 months on and doing all the exercises, I am now able to walk easily and comfortably and am looking forward to warmer weather when I will be able to walk further distances and swim properly again. Thank you Mr Shah.

When Mr Shah replaced my left knee in 2010 so successfully I knew that he was the only consultant I would trust to perform my right knee replacement 2 years later. And so when I needed a hip replacement due to osteoarthritis in October this year 2021there was only one person - Mr Shah - who will also be replacing my other hip in 2022. I cannot speak too highly of his care, explaining everything in detail and seemingly having all the time in the world for me/his patients when I know he is such a busy man. What a charming man and amazing surgeon. Thank you that I can still walk miles, dance and hike up mountains at 70.

I had a total left hip replacement in December 2020 following several outpatient appointments. At each stage of my journey Mr Shah explained to me precisely what the operation would involve, what the recovery time would be and how vitally important it was to follow the exercises given to me by the physiotherapist (which were remotely as we were in lockdown). I know that I was in safe hands with Mr Shah throughout the entire process. One year on, I am out of pain, virtually have regained full mobility of my hip and was able to return to my volunteering role at the hospital early in the New Year 2021. A massive thank you for taking such good care of me.

The hip replacement I had under the care of Mr Shah was a complete success. I was able to discuss the operation with him before and after the procedure. My scar was neat and tidy and there was no sign of infection. I was given the opportunity of getting in touch with him or his team if I had any problems.

Mr Nirav Shah is a very experienced and highly respected Consultant Hip and Knee Surgeon and had already performed successful operations on a member of my family. In May 2021 I contacted Goring Hall Hospital and spoke with Rhondda who is Mr Shah's Secretary. She arranged an X-ray and appointment for 25th May. My hip pain had suddenly worsened and, showing me the X-ray, Mr Shah said "there is only one decision to make - to do it or not!" I am so thankful I chose to go ahead. An appointment was made for 2nd July subject to medical clearance by Dr Pegge, perhaps associated with my age at 86. With two days notice, Rhondda amazingly arranged for a hospital heart 'echo' to enable the total hip op to proceed with the skilled support of the anaesthetist on the appointed day. The subsequent three days in Goring Hall were faultless examples of care, re-assurance and attention which included two ward visits from Mr Shah, and subsequently the Physiotherapist was very helpful in guiding and planning my mobility. Four weeks after the op. I was walking up to two miles with one stick. Six weeks after the op. I met with Mr Shah for a successful review of progress and a reminder of the importance of continuing the exercises . To express my gratitude to Mr Shah and everyone involved is a very big understatement. I am so grateful to him, his team, and the care of Goring Hall Hospital. Phillip Hudson
