I am a week 4 Pre-op gastric bypass patient. My op was performed by Mr Loy and his team at The RSH on 15th June 2016. I met Mr Loy and the team last year, and he informed me that physically and mentally I was in a terrible condition. Suffering with depression, an enlarged heart, sleep apnea and now type 2 diabetes I was on a slippery downward spiral with a short life expectancy if my condition wasn't treated immediately. In December last year at a massive 35st Mr Loy fitted me with a gastric balloon. The op was over before I knew it, which was great as it was my first time in hospital ever, I had an overnight stay and sent home the following morning. Briony and Hayley were with me throughout offering care and support if ever I needed it. 4 weeks ago I had the gastric bypass and happy to say, for me it was a doddle, no pain and no side effects. I am now at 27st and feeling much healthier and fitter, my diabetes has reversed and this op has so far added 20yrs to my life. I can't thank Mr Loy and his team enough, this op has changed my life for the better, my family are happier because I'm now a changed man, I have my life back. My body and my health are changing for the better on a daily basis, I have a whole new life to look forward to, my wife gets a new man and my kids get their dad back. Sorry about the long essay but I really can't speak highly enough about Mr Loy and the team at the RSH.

We have just come away from Shrewsbury hospital where my wife was due to have a gall bladder op. Whilst everything pointed that this was the issue, Mr Loy stood back and reviewed the symptoms and spoke to my wife and ultimately listened. He stated that he thought although there was a problem the underlying issue which he wished to peruse and not put my wife through a procedure that was not required. My wife at this stage was in tears as it seemed the first time she had been heard. Thank you Mr Loy, you will see that happy, smiling lady greet you, a life changing chance meeting but ultimately a passionate doctor with his patients well being before anything.

I can't speak to highly about Mr Loy and his team, Mr Loy put me at ease from the word go, explaining everything in great detail, he performed a gastric by pass on me in May 2016, meeting me on the morning of surgery, full of smiles and his jovial manner. I next saw him in the recovery room where he assured me all had gone well, I was totally amazed that post op I didn't experience any pain or discomfort at all, I had to keep checking that I had been operated on, and now 5 weeks post op I can honestly say I still haven't experienced any pain, this can only be down to the expertise that this man has in his profession, I am very lucky to have gone through this with such a kind, caring and understanding man, who is backed up by an amazing team. A huge thank you .

I had surgery in March 2016 to remove my gall bladder. I consider myself very lucky that the surgeon was Mr John Loy, he is a very warm friendly caring man, with an excellent bedside manner. Being a very nervous patient, this operation really seemed like a big deal to me. During the initial consultation, Mr Loy carefully and professionally explained (with diagrams) what was happening with my gall bladder and how he would treat it. I was made fully aware of the probability of possible complications, so that I could make an informed choice whether to go ahead with the surgery. This honesty really helped to reassure me. A few days later, I found I had more questions, and so I contacted Mr Loy via his secretary and received a response the very same day - so no sleepless nights of worrying for me :-) On the day of the surgery, I felt (unusually) calm, and I believe this is because I was so well informed and I had every confidence in Mr Loy. He came to see me before I went down to theatre, and again the following morning. The warm calm reassuring nature of this man is wonderful. My advice to anybody facing surgery, is if Mr John Loy is your surgeon, then go ahead because you will receive the best quality care. I have made what I consider to be a speedy recovery, and 3 weeks later I am feeling great. I really owe a great debt of gratitude to this man for making this process straightforward with little anxiety as possible. Mr John Loy really is a credit to the profession.

Mr Loy performed a sleeve gastrectomy on me 6 weeks ago. Both the journey leading up to the surgery and since the surgery has been made as easy and straightforward as possible by Mr Loy and his team who have consistently provided honest guidance, information and feedback which has allowed me to make informed choices. The support provided throughout this experience could not be better. From an early stage I was made aware of who to contact and how if I had any questions and when I did, I received a prompt, professional and helpful response. Mr Loy presents in a confident manner about both his surgical ability, knowledge and the positive impact it will have on the patient. Unlike many other consultants I have encountered, Mr Loy has never changed an appointment date/time. He has a warm manner and makes you feel as though he really cares about your wellbeing. His enthusiasm inspires confidence in him and he has not let me down. On the day of my surgery, I met Mr Loy early in the morning and he came to speak to me again just prior to the surgery in the anaesthetic room, cracking jokes and full of smiles to help put me at ease. Mr Loy also spoke to me in the recovery room to assure me that all had gone well and came to see me on the ward the day after surgery, allowing me to ask any questions I had. In terms of the surgery itself, my wounds have healed well and without any issues. Internally, I appear to have healed as expected. This would suggest that Mr Loy's surgical ability is as good as his patient centred manner. Thanks to Mr Loy and his team for a fantastic service, most appreciated.
