Alex has great time keeping and was very comforting while still professional. He listened to my concerns and he was genuinely interested in listening and helping.

I write this on behalf of my family, for our brother who has Downs syndrome (age 53). It was a major operation for our brother (who is non-verbal), the family were nervous about the whole process and concerned about how our brother would deal with the procedure. Mr Hotouras explained the procedure and tried to reassure us, that our brother was in good hands. Throughout our brothers stay in hospital, Mr Hotouras checked on him regularly, engaging with him with high-fives, acknowledging him, even though our brother understood very little. Mr Hotouras shows compassion, empathy, in a professional manner. During recovering at home Mr Hotouras, has reassured us that we could contact him if we had any concerns, this put our minds at rest knowing there was someone to talk to. The family are grateful for the high standards Mr Hotouras has demonstrated. We would recommend Mr Hotouras to anyone who needed his services. Thank you to Mr Hotouras, and his team at Whipps Cross.

Dr Hotouras is a remarkable man – he provides me with reassurance during a difficult time and he has been open and honest with regards to treatment. A plan has always been clearly communicated to me and I am reassured by the clear next steps for my treatment. I also wholeheartedly agree with reviews posted here relating to follow ups – Dr Hotouras not only visited me in the ward but came by after I was discharged to check in again. I can honestly say that I sleep better at night knowing I am under the care of Dr Hotouras and the entire team looking after me at NHS Barts Health (Whipps Cross).

I am genuinely lost for words as to the work and efforts Mr Hotouras and the team (especially also Shihab) put in for me. In the initial meeting in theatre before having my surgery I was reassured and comforted by his calm manner. It was the little things like knowing the information about me (for example being a medical student) and not just being another ‘number’ on the surgery list. Following the surgery and recovery period he took his valuable time out to check up on me, my recovery, advice on going forward, and even spent time giving me advice as a future doctor. I even managed to bump into Me Hotouras in the outpatients department following my dressings procedure, he again took some time to check how I was doing and the recovery. I am extremely grateful for the excellent and high standards Mr Hotouras has, from his verbal and non-verbal communication, his interpersonal skills, and teamwork just to name a few. The NHS and Barts Health should be proud to have first and foremost a great person and secondly a knowledgable consultant. I will reflect on this experience and hope to take these skills into my future clinical work as I know how much of an impact this can have on a patient and their care. Thank you once again Mr Hotouras. Forever thankful.

Alex did my surgery back in January 2023. It was a major operation and I was really nervous about the whole process. Alex and the whole of his team helped me through every single struggle I had (and there were a few). The surgery was a success and Alex went above and beyond for me and made a stressful and painful circumstance easier. My recovery took slightly longer than anticipated but Alex was very thorough in making sure I was comfortable and ready to leave hospital. I was discharged from hospital in February and have since had 3 follow up appointments either telephone or face to face with Alex or a member of his team. I have felt supported and listened to the whole time and would 100% recommend Alex as a surgeon. I am still recovering but have every confidence in contacting Alex if I face any issues in the future.
