I was in care of Alex and his amazing team since the beginning of 2025, culminating in surgery at the end of November for Laparoscopic Sigmoid Colectomy for complex Diverticular Disease fistulising into the bladder and small bowel. The 4 hour operation turned into a complicated 8 hour one. Alex even found my wife who was waiting, and explained to her every thing, and put her at ease. I was informed of every step of the way before the operation, and my after care, which will be extensive, has been again exceptional. I am aware of every thing that has and will happen. Alex and his team saw me everyday, even weekend, and when I was discharged, Alex called me at home to see how I was doing. I had a contact for him and could use this 24 hours if needed. I have nothing but praise for him and his team.

I was due to have part of my colon removed at the Royal London Hospital, but due to a last-minute logistical problem I was at short notice offered the operation at Whipps Cross instead. Unfortunately there was a complication and I unexpectedly had to be given a stoma. Mr Hotouras patiently explained how he could reverse the stoma, and the risks involved. He blocked out a whole day for the operation, and indeed it took most of the day. He met my wife after the operation and was very kind in explaining what was going on. He had to attend a conference while I was recuperating in hospital (for which he apologised many times!) but ensured that I was well looked after in his absence, and even phoned me the weekend after my discharge to check that I was OK. When I saw him for a follow-up it was clear that he attaches as much importance to after-care as to the surgery itself. He is very likeable and I trust him completely.

Came into A&E after having had a fall, had several scans and tests and was looked after by the medical team and nurses. I was then moved to Rowan ward and poplar ward. I would like to thank Charmine a junior nurse on rowan ward who looked after me with empathy and great care also Milton on Poplar ward. Anna and Gulshan both helped as well to expedite my release and also cared for me. Mr Alex Hotouras the consultant came to see me every day and explained my condition. Overall from start to finish my experience at Whipps Coss hospital was excellent after my initial trepidations of going into Hospital. Susan Goldman

I had a laparoscopic sigmoid colectomy for fistulating diverticular disease on Thursday 23rd October. without the need of having to have a stoma Was down In operating theatre for a long time, but very happy with how the operation went. Dr Hotouras is a very reassuring professional person and very caring towards his patients. He looked after me more than I ever expected to be looked after. I can’t thank him enough for what his done for me.

Alex was very helpful and so kind. I do not understand or speak very well English and Alex happened to speak the same language as me. He made sure to do the colonoscopy himself so he could explain to me in person what would be going on. He made me feel better as he was reassuring me that everything would be great to calm me. I had a great experience with him and also the rest of the staff.
