He is a kind and caring expert in his field. I was asked lots of questions and he quickly grasped the full nature of my problems. After some tests and feed back from other practitioners ( eg dietician)I was given a logical, practical care plan that has greatly improved the quality of my life. I would highly recommend him.

In my experience it is rare to find a doctor with compassion and kindness to match their expertise - but I struck gold when I came to see Dr Siqqiqi. He really listened to me, and put me at ease when I was feeling at my most vulnerable. I had seen a number of health professionals before finding Dr Siddiqi and none could provide answers for me, but Dr Siddiqi quickly put me on the right path. This doctor is an expert in his field - and he genuinely cares. He made a real difference to my life and I highly recommend him.

I have been under Mr Siddiqi since 2011 and if not for him I would be here today. I have had 3 major operations and a few routine procedures done by him over the 7 years and he excellent and would not let anyone else deal with my problem as I trust him explicitly, he listens to you and explains exactly what is going to do and will support you in everyway possible, he is a 100% caring of his patient, for me would not want to deal with any other person, he is a great asset to both Broomfield Hosital and the NHS. - Steve Lefley

Mr Siddiqi's approach puts you at ease immediately. Pretty soon you've forgotten how much you were dreading having a conversation and examination concerning your colon/rectum etc etc. He listens very carefully and gives clear explanations regarding diagnosis and treatments. Mr Siddiqi is very proactive, referrals to other departments are made really quickly and his Secretary always so helpful. You are in such safe hands if you are Mr Siddiqi's patient. If you are given a choice of Consultants, you will be doing yourself a massive favour by choosing him. His parting words to me at my final consultation: 'If you need me, you know where to find me' Seriously, the best Dr ever!

Mr Shahab Siddiqi attended to my 'problem' with great understanding & was 'active' in arranging several 'procedures' with speed & efficiency; which resulted in my general wellbeing, and, confidence in myself to return.

Profile

Mr Siddiqi is a Consultant Surgeon at Broomfield Hospital. Within the Department of General Surgery, he is the Lead Surgeon for Pelvic Floor Surgery and Surgical Site Infections.

Since his appointment, he has initiated advanced robotic surgery using the da Vinci robot for pelvic floor conditions and is one of the most experienced surgeons in this type of robotic surgery in the country. Broomfield Hospital is the only centre in Essex performing robotic operations and is a BUPA preferred centre for robotic surgery. This extensive robotic surgical experience has now been used for other colorectal operations including surgery for cancer. Mr Siddiqi has also introduced new and innovative therapies for faecal incontinence and constipation.

Despite his background as a surgeon, Mr Siddiqi has extensive knowledge in medical problems such as irritable bowel syndrome, pelvic pain and Pruritus ani (anal itch) without which, he feels, he would not be able to manage complex surgical issues.

He has developed academic links with Anglia Ruskin University and is currently involved in surgical research projects in the fields of colorectal cancer and surgical infections. He is a Honorary Senior Lecturer at the university and is the GI module tutor for the MSc in minimal invasive surgery.

Mr Siddiqi graduated from St. Georges Hospital Medical School, London and later undertook research at the University of London studying methods trying to improve the detection of colorectal cancer spread for which he was awarded a MD thesis. He completed his specialist surgical training in the North East Thames Higher Surgical Training programme. Mr Siddiqi obtained further advanced training in Castle Hill Hospital, Hull and Waikato Hospital, Hamilton, New Zealand. In Hull, which is a leading pelvic floor centre, he undertook a Pelvic Floor Fellowship. Subsequently, Mr Siddiqi obtained the rare accreditation for Sacral Nerve Stimulation from this unit. In New Zealand, he worked as a Laparoscopic Fellow at a busy innovative unit specialising in keyhole surgery.

He is on the editorial board for the Journal of Robotic Surgery.
