Dr Siddiqi is very approachable and makes you feel confident to discuss your symptoms. Even better he can diagnose them . After a four years of feeling very poorly with a huge change in my quality of life . Dr Siddiqi very quickly understood and prescribed the medication that has improved my health to feeling much more like my old self again . What I have is something that can’t be cured and needs several specialists headed by Dr Siddiqi . He arranged all the specialists and continues to monitor how everything is improving regularly. I have full confidence in Dr Shahab Siddiqi and his team of specialists. I would fully recommend them and have the highest respect for their work and patient care.

My problem worsened over decades until I met Mr Siddiqi in July 2016. My problem felt "normal" to me. Mr Siddiqi examined me and prescribed simple remedies that were easy to follow and not much hassle to do daily. I expected surgery, drugs and lifestyle adjustments, including new lifestyle restrictions. Instead I'm cured. Instantly. He did change my life like no other medical specialist.

I found Dr. Siddiqi extremely easy to talk to. He listened & asked relevant questions as to my problem, so I felt I was getting the correct help I needed. He made referrals & suggested alternatives other than surgery. I’m much better after seeing him & he’s made it quite clear that I can return to him anytime in the future should I need to.

Great consultant. Many consultants wouldn't do my hernia repair as too high risk. 1 consultant wanted me to lose weight which I understand, but once I lost the weight that consultant moved the goal post to more. I had previous hernia operation which was messed up at hospital, which is why I needed it done again. I became an emergency, and noone was encouraging this consultant Mr Siddiqi to do it, but he went ahead and done it as there was no option, he got me through, it wasn't expected for me to come through, but I did and it was because of mr Siddiqi and all the team in theatre. He is superb and I highly value what he done for me .

Profile

Mr Siddiqi is a Consultant Surgeon at Broomfield Hospital. Within the Department of General Surgery, he is the Lead Surgeon for Pelvic Floor Surgery and Surgical Site Infections.

Since his appointment, he has initiated advanced robotic surgery using the da Vinci robot for pelvic floor conditions and is one of the most experienced surgeons in this type of robotic surgery in the country. Broomfield Hospital is the only centre in Essex performing robotic operations and is a BUPA preferred centre for robotic surgery. This extensive robotic surgical experience has now been used for other colorectal operations including surgery for cancer. Mr Siddiqi has also introduced new and innovative therapies for faecal incontinence and constipation.

Despite his background as a surgeon, Mr Siddiqi has extensive knowledge in medical problems such as irritable bowel syndrome, pelvic pain and Pruritus ani (anal itch) without which, he feels, he would not be able to manage complex surgical issues.

He has developed academic links with Anglia Ruskin University and is currently involved in surgical research projects in the fields of colorectal cancer and surgical infections. He is a Honorary Senior Lecturer at the university and is the GI module tutor for the MSc in minimal invasive surgery.

Mr Siddiqi graduated from St. Georges Hospital Medical School, London and later undertook research at the University of London studying methods trying to improve the detection of colorectal cancer spread for which he was awarded a MD thesis. He completed his specialist surgical training in the North East Thames Higher Surgical Training programme. Mr Siddiqi obtained further advanced training in Castle Hill Hospital, Hull and Waikato Hospital, Hamilton, New Zealand. In Hull, which is a leading pelvic floor centre, he undertook a Pelvic Floor Fellowship. Subsequently, Mr Siddiqi obtained the rare accreditation for Sacral Nerve Stimulation from this unit. In New Zealand, he worked as a Laparoscopic Fellow at a busy innovative unit specialising in keyhole surgery.

He is on the editorial board for the Journal of Robotic Surgery.
