My dad has been a patient at St Peters since September and is ongoing at the moment. The care my father has received has been second to none. Mr James is his consultant and we trust him completely, my dad has found out he has bladder cancer and although the situation is quite scary Mr James provides us with knowledge of procedures my dad has to go through and so far has kept my dads mind at ease with his kindness and caring nature. He is very patient when we ask questions and has time to sit and talk us through them and we appreciate his straight forward and efficient approach. We cannot complain one bit about the care he has received. Thank you

Mr James was very considerate and kind as he listened to how my symptoms had progressed since the last appointment. He gave a clear plan of action for the coming months and so I know how to act if a problem arises.

Such a caring man. Listened to our worries and fears, non judgemental and exudes an air of calmness. Total faith in this man. Has put my son's fears to rest, and given him options for his ongoing healthcare - what more can you ask. I wish more Doctors were like this amazing man.

Profile

Raised in North Yorkshire but now firmly established in Surrey, Philip’s medical career has covered the length and breadth of England. He graduated from Nottingham University in 2007, achieving his BMedSci degree investigating the role of “Cell Membrane Rafts” in disease processes, including cancer. After completing his Foundation and Core Surgical Training in the Midlands, his Urology Specialist Training was undertaken in London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex. He returned to take up his NHS Consultant post at Ashford & St. Peter’s in October 2017.

Philip specialises in all aspects of core urology, including endourological procedures of the upper and lower urinary tract. His scope extends to both benign and malignant conditions, as well as all aspects of male and female urological problems. He has a keen interest in improving the diagnostic pathways of patients with suspected prostate malignancy, and helped to introduce template-guided prostate biopsy to Ashford & St. Peter’s. In addition, he has been integral to the development of day-case treatments for bladder cancer, and bladder outflow obstruction, through his interest in Transurethral Laser Ablation and photovapourisation techniques.

In addition to his clinical work, Philip maintains a firm commitment to urological training both in the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Deanery, and nationally. He regularly hosts training sessions for those in Higher Speciality Training, and he is also founding member of the National Catheter Programme, (a Health Education England funded initiative that is working to improve the care of patients with indwelling, urethral and supra-pubic catheters).

In his free time, Philip enjoys nothing more than going to a big event with his wife, cheering on Harlequins and Brentford, and playing golf and tennis at his local clubs.

Philip is passionate about the service that he provides, and welcomes your feedback.
