I would thoroughly recommend Mr Barrett. I booked to see him because of a sporting injury to my ankle and he quickly spelled out what he thought was wrong and what the next steps would be (getting an MRI scan to assess the damage). When I met with him to discuss the results he explained why it didn't need surgery at this stage and could be managed conservatively. He also explained the expected timeframe for recovery. If the outcome had been surgery, he explained the type of procedure that would have been required. Having been to a physio prior to these appointments and not getting a clear diagnosis, it was very reassuring to have my injury properly assessed and explained to me. Thank you Mr Barrett.

I have had only one consultation with Mr Barrett, but his advice has been extremely helpful. I went to him after experiencing foot pain for many months, having tried various solutions. Mr Barrett diagnosed the problem very quickly, and explained what was needed very clearly. I followed his directions, and am now walking without pain.

I saw Mr Barrett on Friday 10th February for a review of my recovery and progress. Up until that appointment, I was not aware of the personal dedication and commitment Mr Barrett had made at the time of my accident. I suffered a very serious horse riding accident on 29th September 2022. Upon arrival at Addenbrookes I was assessed to have major trauma injuries including an external talus fracture and dislocated left elbow. Mr Barrett had already completed his shift and had left for home and collected his children along the way. I have now learned that he received a call from colleagues about my injuries and he made the decision to return to the hospital to operate on me. I understand that my injuries were limb threatening and there was grave concern over my left ankle. Mr Barrett and his team conducted a long operation to save my leg. I was absolutely humbled and indescribably grateful to discover this information last Friday. I feel it should be highlighted to senior management as an act way over and above that reasonably expected of a consultant. I cannot suitably express the enormous gratitude to Mr Barrett for undoubtably changing the direction of the possible consequences of my accident that day. When I tried to express this, Mr Barrett was very matter of fact in saying “you didn’t need to know that, it’s just what needed to be done.” The NHS get so much criticism from many angles and it’s no secret the pressure Hospital staff are under, but it’s the strength of giants like Mr Barrett who keep it going. As a former police officer with 20 years service, I understand pressures put on public services and often the criticism and disrespect the public aim towards the very services that look after them. This is a case of outstanding dedication and commitment I really feel needed highlighting.
