I am generally a frightened patient and like most do not like pain or needles. Dr Kandikattu talked me through the process of a root nerve block injection before I went into the procedure room. Once there, he talked me through every step of the way, before he did anything he would tell me what was next, at every point during the procedure he was talking to me and reasuring me. At no point was i in any sort of pain, the team working with him were also kind, caring and considerate to my needs, there was even a Nurse to hand my hand, offering me comfort and support. I have to say I was pleasenetly surprised, going from the height of anxiety to enormous releif that I had had a pain free experience. Dr Kandikattu is truely a calm, caring Consultant who strives to give his patients the best experience during what is a challening time for them

This is my second time of having pain management by Dr Kandikattu and I was so pleased he was able to treat me this time. He couldn't improve his role as he is calming informative and as for the procedure ( spinal injections) I felt no pain just a little bit uncomfortable, he spoke to me all the way through and his team are just as caring.

From the first consultation I had with Dr Kandikattu I knew I would be in good hands. No one likes going into hospital but Dr Kandikattu put me at ease chatted with me before surgery and put me at ease. During the procedure or spinal injections he chatted with me the whole way through keeping me at ease, fully explaining what he was doing and his next steps thank the lord for the NHS and for people like Dr Kandikattu, you are worth your weight in gold. You are an asset to your profession and the NHS.

This is the third time I’ve had this procedure, medial block, (it is not a permanent solution). Every time it has given respite from the continuous pain. Dr Kandikattu is excellent, he explains what he will be doing, he always ensures you are not suffering pain from the procedure and then during the procedure he gives a running commentary so you are aware of his actions. I have to say I would not want anyone else to do this because I know that by his experience and ability I will have pain relief. I recommend him 100% to other patients looking for excellent patient care and relief from pain.

I have had a consultation and 1 round of treatment (so far) from Dr Kandikattu, for nerve pain following hernia surgery. He has taken great care to explain his diagnosis and the treatment options, when it came to the treatment again he explained exactly what would be happening and throughout the treatment (nerve injections) he was very communicative and checking how I felt. I would not hesitate to recommend him not only for his knowledge and professionalism but his 'bed side manner' during all my treatment.

Profile

Dr Kandikattu is one of the few pain medicine consultants in East Anglia to have gained certification in the Fellowship in Interventional Pain Practice (FIPP). He uses the biopsychosocial model of pain to offer modern assessment and management of his patients’ pain at the Peterborough City & Stamford Hospital, Fitzwilliam and Boston West and Clementine Churchill Hospitals.

“Whilst doing my pain training at the Royal Marsden Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, St Mary’s Hospital and Hillingdon Hospital, I was inspired by the pioneers in pain management there and I became keen to learn new techniques.”

“I am pleased to now be able to tutor students studying for their MSc in Regional Anaesthetics at the University of East Anglia and I hope that I can instil some of desire to embrace new and modern pain management techniques in these trainees.”

Dr Kandikattu offers comprehensive pain management to people suffering from chronic pain from their head to their toes including: cancer, musculoskeletal and spinal (neck, chest, lower back, sciatica), neuropathic, complex regional pain syndrome, fibromyalgia, chronic headaches and persistent post-surgical pain.

He performs a full range of pain interventions including epidurals, facet and sacroiliac joint injections, radiofrequency denervations, most of which are image-guided using x-ray or ultrasound guidance. He is also an expert in treating acute pain and inpatient pain management.

He offers outpatient appointments and inpatient care for pain management intervention at the Fitzwilliam and Boston West Hospitals. Patients struggling with chronic post-operative pain may need further pain management to relieve their discomfort and Dr Kandikattu can offer a back-up service for them too.

“I use this holistic model of approach for all my patients, taking all the biological, psychological and, social factors into account as each can impact on a patient’s pain. It’s important to treat patients as a whole.” said Dr Kandikattu.
