Dr Jananath Wijeyekoon

I have always received excellent care from Dr Wijeyekoon since my diagnosis 10 years ago. He has always listened carefully to my concerns and tried to help with any problems with my treatment. I really could not fault any of my care from him - he is the best!

I first met Dr Wijeyekoon as a private patient after facing long waits for NHS referrals. He immediately recognised how sick I was and went out of his way to fit me in at his NHS clinic asap. From there he thoroughly coordinated my care with a range of other specialties and ensured that every possibility was examined. He came to visit me when I was in hospital even when he was not on the wards that day to make sure everything was OK. He showed me and my family such kindness and gave me hope when I felt my worst. He is an incredible doctor. He really listens to any concerns, symptoms or opinions you have on your care. He explains everything clearly and in easy to understand terms, he is knowledgeable, realistic, through and honest when there are no clear answers. He is compassionate and caring and goes out of his way for patients. He is a real asset to Hertfordshire patients and anyone would be lucky that he is their doctor as he truly goes above and beyond. I do not have any constructive suggestions as it is clear that Dr Wijeyekoon could not have done any more for me than what he did and continues to do! There are some people who make make such a positive impact on your life that you will never forget them. For me Dr Wijeyekoon is that person, I will never forget what he did for me and I will never stop feeling greatful! Dr Wijeyekoon, thank you so much for giving me my life back!! I don't think my words can adequately express the gratitude I (and my family) feel! I think if you had not helped me that day my life would look very different now. It is people like you who truly make the world a better place.

Dr J Wijeyekoon came to my aid with a thorough above and beyond approach. To assist me with a prognosis and medical solution . To allow me to finally get my knee ready for total replacement surgery. It was very inflamed and surgeon wasn't able or wisely not going to operate whilst in this state. Dr J Wijeyekoon explained to me why that was the case frankly far better than my surgeon. After samples and various bloods localised gout was identified, something I've never suffered from previously and only was presenting in my worn knee only. His knowledge and guidance got my levels to a below average number as to allow the go ahead for surgery. Even when my GP practice wasn't very on point he stepped in and got things moving. Now post surgery after a three year struggle he is just as invested in my wellbeing and making sure that nothing gets in the way of my full rehabilitation. Really can't thank him enough I fully believe with out Dr J Wijeyekoon dedication and assistance I would still be in great pain suffering major mobility issues due to not being surgery ready. Now with surgery completed and inflammation and gout control ongoing I can spend quality time with my young family again. And get my self back to pre issue fitness.

My disabled daughter is Dr Wijeyekoon's relatively new patient. She really likes him as he makes sure he talks to her (not over her to me), is a really good listener and clarifies to what said to him: we feel that he gathers all information without rushing the process to offer his advice and recommendations in a clear structured way. Dr Wijeyekoon has looked after me for about 13 years following diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis. He has always been friendly, willing to explain and caring. I feel very fortunate to have been able to be advised, looked after and cared for by this very efficient, understanding doctor. I would not hesitate to recommend him.

My first interaction with this doctor was for him to tell me that there was nothing rheumatologically wrong with me. He was wrong (significantly wrong). I made the mistake of giving him benefit of the doubt and that he had perhaps had a bad day. Once diagnosis confirmed elsewhere, he went on to gaslight me, lie to me and I have found him to be condescending, patronising and arrogant - he did not listen to me, he did not seem knowledgeable and when he was wrong he failed to admit error - this is the first time in all of my time dealing with the NHS to have had such a negative interaction with a doctor. It was incredibly disheartening and upsetting. I know how stretched the NHS is and how difficult their jobs can be but I would not want anyone to feel the way that I have felt following the interactions with this doctor - avoid if you can.

Dr Wijeyekoon has been my rheumatologist since diagnosis in 2012. He is an extremely knowledgeable and caring specialist. He has at all times listened with respect and understanding. Dr Wijeyekoon is up to date with current medications and has helped me improve my confition and manage it well. I would recommend him without hesitation.

Initial consultation and assumed diagnosis was quite a shock, 2nd consultation with all the results and diagnosis which thankfully was not the assumed diagnosis, was very positive and delighted to have a explanation of my symptoms and start my recovery. However after not being able to come off the prescribed medicine as symptoms returned more tests were done 9 months later and another diagnosis has been confirmed with different medicine prescribed, I should of booked in much earlier for the follow up tests. Dr Wijeyekoon has been very reassuring and professional throughout.

He makes you feel relaxed. He listens to your feelings. Confidence comes from his understanding of the pain/illness. Takes your situation into account and diagnoses what is need. You feel confident in his assessment and solutions. He cares and helps with some charm.

Really can't say that he could give better care. He is a wonderful Doctor very understanding and empathetic he always listens to you and gives you time. Very good in his field and I'm lucky to have him as my specialist
