Having been recommended to see Hector via a close friend I can honestly say he is a doctor that listens! The main thing is he wants to get to the bottom of my condition and that he understands what I want to be doing moving forward. I’m really positive looking ahead now as before I started seeing Hector I’d got to a dead end.

He has really helped me a lot, I felt as though no one was listening to my symptoms until I went to see prof chinoy. He really listened to all my symptoms and felt like he cared for my wellbeing & how it impacted my quality of life on a daily basis. He has been a great help and I am improving thanks to him!

I saw Prof Chinoy immediately before the "lockdown" and his advice and treatment were very prompt and efficient and even when the world seemed to stop, he persevered, trying to offer care in the most difficult of times and is obviously very passionate about what he does and his patients.

Professor Chinoy is a great Doctor and i would recommend him to anyone. He put me completely at ease very quickly by listening carefully to my symptoms and pain history, asking questions to clarify and probe further where necessary. He was very careful to explain what the plan was for my treatment and included me in the decision process for next steps where appropriate. It’s never nice to have to go and see a medical professional but Professor Chinoy made the experience friendly, responsive and less ‘clinical’ whilst absolutely making patient care his priority

Professor Hector Chinoy is a Senior Clinical Lecturer and Consultant Rheumatologist. He is also principal investigator on a number of clinical trials. Outside of the NHS, he has private consulting rooms at BMI Alexandra Hospital, Cheadle, and Spire OrthTeam Manchester Hospital, Didsbury, for both general and specialist conditions, on a Wednesday and Friday evening.

He is also employed by The University of Manchester, where he is actively involved with research and the education of medical students and doctors, and is Programme Director for the Clinical Rheumatology MSc Programme. Professor Chinoy has authored over 130 research articles in international peer-reviewed journals, has presented multiple research abstracts in national and international conferences, and is considered to be a global expert in inflammatory myopathy. He has edited an Oxford Rheumatology Library textbook on Myositis.
Professor Chinoy firmly believes in the importance of clear, open communication with patients and sufferers of musculoskeletal conditions. He sees a wide range of rheumatic diseases at Salford Royal and closely works alongside a multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses and podiatrists. Many rheumatic diseases cannot be cured, but accurate diagnosis and focused management/treatment can help significantly to improve pain, disability and quality of life.
On completing his medical degree at the University of Nottingham in 1996, Professor Chinoy carried out medical training in Nottingham, Sheffield and Manchester. He trained in Rheumatology in the North West from 2001-2009. He completed an Arthritis Research UK Fellowship at The University of Manchester, and was awarded a PhD in 2007. In 2009 he became a Consultant Rheumatologist and in 2010 was awarded a Senior Clinical Lectureship in Rheumatology. He was awarded a Chair at The University of Manchester in 2019.
Research interests include immunogenetic risk factors and how these correlate with novel serological biomarkers and clinical outcomes. He is co-chair of UKMYONET, a national consortium which fosters collaborative research in inflammatory myopathy. Dr Chinoy is also chair of the Euromyositis Registry, a web-based consortium which collects standardised clinical data in over 20 countries.
