After the shock of diagnosis, everything was ‘plain sailing’, thanks to the wonderful skill and care provided by Mr Paul Thiruchelvam, his team and the courteous patience and efficiency of his PA, Michelle. Mr T carefully explained everything to prepare me for the operation, including the aftercare. His quiet confidence and reassurance helped to remove any sense of panic. My bilateral mastectomy went ‘like clockwork’. When I awoke from the anaesthesia, I had no pain and needed no painkillers. I recovered without the slightest hint of nausea. I was discharged from hospital the next day, feeling relieved and at ease thanks to Mr T and his team. The loss of my breasts is the necessary pay-off for removing high-grade cancers. The Magtrace injections prior to the procedure indicated that my lymph nodes were clear. I would not need chemo- or radiotherapy. I urge all women, whatever their age, to trust in the superior knowledge of consultants, like Mr Thiruchelvam, and DON’T panic! Go for it - you won’t regret it!

What an excellent doctor. Immediately I was reassured when listening to his explanation of my particular breast cancer. He was approachable, good mannered and direct. I asked if I could see my x-ray on his screen. He took the time to draw examples of his suggested treatments for me and to ask questions. I felt totally relaxed with my examinations whilst he drew on my breast - and he gave off an attitude of complete confidence related to the procedure that was going to take place. I would have been so disappointed if I had been given another replacement surgeon. To date all is going well and all looks successful I cannot wait until the stitches and plasters have fallen away. Which may I add, makes the whole experience a little exciting to view my newly shaped breasts. minus the cancer cells. Brilliant work, plus to add to the whole experience the kind and helpful MacMillan nurses too.

I cannot recommend Mr Thiruchelvam highly enough. His attention to detail in every aspect is off the chart. Every base was was covered ensuring that the very best team was in place and that every aspect of the process from testing, to surgery and post operative care was delivered seamlessly. His manner of explaining everything is transparent and easy to understand, expressing great empathy but not sugar coating. The surgical procedure was excellent and the recovery has been very well monitored. The administrative side was also excellent from appointment organisation to guidance with the insurance procedure.

Dear Mr Thiruchelvam I am writing to you to thank you wholeheartedly for the level of care that I have received in your clinic since the diagnosis of my breast cancer in May. When I came to the New Victoria Hospital on Friday 27 May, I genuinely believed that I just needed to have another image taken to replace the one that was blurred, and that I would be back to work that afternoon! I soon sensed that this wasn’t the case and to my horror, that I was likely to have cancer. Despite the shock, I felt reassured and in safe hands and I was very impressed by the speed of the diagnostic process. Once diagnosed, I felt hugely comforted by your expertise and the initial support I received from Angela Hawkins, your breast care nurse. Both of you were repeatedly prepared to answer my questions carefully and thoughtfully to alleviate my worries, and your Practice Manager, Michelle Wright, was consistently quick to answer my queries. It was extremely reassuring to know that you work with such a professional team of doctors and consultants, and the referral process was always quick and easy during such a stressful time. I found it very beneficial to have regular contact and consultations with you; this meant that I felt highly informed before my mastectomy surgery and I felt that I was going to be well looked after. As I prepare for the next stage of my treatment, I will always look back at the early stages of my diagnosis with one of great care and compassion. I would strongly recommend anyone going through what I did to come to your clinic, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for removing my cancer. With warmest regards Anja Webster
