Mr Carrothers came to my rescue when the surgeon due to do my hip replacement was suddenly off sick and had to cancel, so even before the surgery, I was already grateful to him. As soon as I met him, I was filled with confidence and appreciated his direct and respectful manner - treating me as an intelligent and equal adult. I made a good and quick recovery (taking my physio very seriously) and continued to feel the benefits (as predicted) of the replacement during the whole of the first year. It is wonderful to be free of pain and has opened up so many areas of life that had become impossible beforehand. I am definitely planning to ask him to do my second hip when it needs it!

I am delighted with my progress after a total hip replacement, with Mako, carried out by Mr Carrothers 2 months ago. He was very approachable and readily answered all my questions, both before and after the operation. My grateful thanks go to him and his team for their skill and attention and thanks too to the Nuffield staff, nurses and physios, for their good-humoured care and support.

I have recently had complete knee replacement surgery. Mr Carrothers was attentive and caring and gave me confidence prior to op..He told me both my knees were shot and my prospects of walking normally again without surgery were not great. I have had both knees done now, my right knee 2 years back, it is pain free and I’m walking well, completely successful..I have just had my left knee done by robotic assisted surgery, my knee was more flexible immediately following op, and I did not need the crutches for so long, 2 months down the line I am walking well and am encouraged by my progress. Both knees now feel very strong compared to pre op. Walking a good distance with no problems and no pain. If I was going to make any suggestions at all it would be with the pain killers, whilst you definitely need them, they do sort the pain. The side effects that come with them can be un-comfortable. I used to play a lot of golf, but for a few years now it has not been possible, I now feel that I will be able to play again soon, which I am looking forward to, along with being able to walk normal distances without pain..

After struggling for several years with the pain in my knee, and going through weeks of physio sessions and hydro therapy, I was finally referred to have a knee replacement. By this time my general mobility was very limited and walking, even short distances, caused so much pain. I was eventually called with the offer of a slot at Spire Cambridge Lea hospital to see Mr. Carrothers, and this turned out to be the best thing to happen to me on my journey to a pain - free existence. He explained everything to me so patiently, and understood my worries. I was a very nervous patient, but he reassured me he would 'look after me', and managed to replace my fears with confidence that all would be well. Two weeks later I had the operation, and was looked after so well by everyone. Mr. Carrothers P.A. was wonderful too. She replied to my emails and phone calls promptly, and I never felt that I was being troublesome. The follow up care was exceptional too, and this is so important. I was guided through my recovery by Mr. Carrothers who explained how I could help myself, and always encouraged me that I was doing well. This support made such a difference as my recovery took some time, but Mr. Carrothers has the patience of a saint, a gentle sense of humour, and I will be eternally grateful for that . I can't express everything I want to say here but, if you find yourself under the care of Mr. Carrothers you'll be truly blessed, as he is both an exceptionally gifted surgeon, and a very special human being.

I have just had a review completed of my total right hip replacement carried out by Andrew Carrothers c.12 months ago. After an x-ray, and as expected, he was able to reassure me that all was well confirming the returned mobility I have enjoyed during the past year. The operation has been a complete success as far as I am concerned and the pain free mobility I have gained as a result has even exceeded my expectations. Throughout the consultation, surgery and recovery I have always found Mr Carrothers approach reassuring and professional. In the event I need further surgery of this nature in the future I would have no hesitation in asking Mr Carrothers to carry it out.
