I had a consultation with Mr Carrothers in September 2022 after which we reached the decision that the time had come that both my knees would need total knee replacement surgery. Mr Carrothers has a very easy relaxed friendly manner he is very attentive and listens very carefully to any concerns you may have and answers all questions in a way that is easy to understand .I left the consultation feeling very informed knowing exactly what options were available to me and felt reassured knowing that I could not have been in better hands. I was admitted to the Nuffield Cambridge on 22 November for total knee replacement of my right knee using the MAKO Robotic procedure.I am now just over two weeks post op and recovery is going well I have minimal pain very little swelling and my right leg is straighter than it’s been for years ! [ I was walking in a slightly stooped manner prior to surgery ]. I was very anxious and nervous on the morning I was admitted but the incredible nursing team on Evelyn Ward immediately put me at ease as did Mr Carrothers and his Anaesthetist Raz Mahroof, who took the time to explain about the spinal anaesthesia and exactly what would happen prior to the operation. Their care was outstanding throughout and I cannot thank them enough.I will feel far less anxious when having my left knee done all being well in three months time. I would like to thank all those who were involved in my care and I cannot recommend Mr Carrothers and his team highly enough, including his PA Carol Morse whom I found to be super efficient ,friendly and helpful in all exchanges.

I found that Mr Carrothers was a good communicator from the intial consultation, then throughout my hospital stay during surgery and the post operation follow up appointment, where he asked questions to find out about my expectations following surgery and what I wanted to achieve with a new knee. He also clearly explained what was involved in the actual operation and recovery. I cannot fault the care I received from Mr Carrothers or the Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital nursing and physiotherapy team.

I've recently had my one year post operation appointment (full hip replacement). At the age of 48 I found myself needing a full hip replacement. I have a very physically demanding job that involves fitness testing including a bleep test and other roles demanding a high level of personal fitness. Mr Carrothers warned me that it may not be possible to return to this role depending on the outcome of my surgery. I can however say a year later with plenty of physio and hard work to get back to full fitness I am now back in my full time job in the role that I performed before, but with no pain and full range of movement. I can 100% recommend Mr Carrothers, he kindly took on my case and knew how much the results mattered to me to be able to return to my full-time job. Can't thank him enough.

After being given my diagnosis and a recommended hip replacement, I was terrified to say the least. After spending 55 years of never being in hospital, the thought of an operation scared me to death. Mr Carrothers listened to my fears and allowed me the time to get my head around the procedure, though I did specifically request that I did not want to know what the procedure entailed incase it put me off. He obliged and was very sympathetic to my fears. In light of the this I went through with the operation, and I was extremely pleased with the result. I was concerned that it might change the shape of my hips and bottom as I am quite proud of these for my age. Mr Carrothers assured me he would do his best to keep my shape, and that shape has remained to 100% of what it was prior to the operation so thank you. The anaesthetist assisting Mr Carrothers was also very sympathetic to my fears so thank you also Doctor Martin. Should I need my other hip replacing, Mr Carrothers will be my first port of call, providing he hasn't retired by then!!

I went to see Andrew Carruthers on the recommendation of my physiotherapist following an MRI scan. At the consultation he took the time to listen to my concerns about getting back to running and cycling. He clearly explained the diagnosis and what would happen with the recommended surgery. The procedure went very well, having never had surgery I was a bit nervous but Mr Carrothers was clam and reassuring at all times. I was exercising the following day and 3 weeks later I am walking 4 miles. I would thoroughly recommend Mr Carrothers to anyone who is in need of an orthopaedic consultation.
