I have been seeing Dr Dahiya for the past 16 years. Dr Dahiya is a unique Consultant, in my husband, Bob's, and my opinion, being extremely engaging and very funny in his care of me. Every single time I have met with Dr Dahiya he remembers everything said to him in previous visits, he always asks how my husband is doing. Bob used to attend every visit with me before Covid and I suppose now we have fallen into me going alone, but Dr Dahiya always asks how Bob is doing. This means a lot to me, he doesn't make me feel like a number, but that I am important and from talking to other patients who attend with him, I hear the very same things. Dr Dahiya is thorough, while being friendly and amusing, which is what we need at our worst times. Humour is what gets us through, he has bundles of that, thankfully. We feel very blessed to have been assigned Dr Dahiya as my Consultant. I have complete trust in him and he explains everything to me on my visits, being completely supportive and understanding of this terrible condition of which he has freed me from my acute pain and given me my life back. To sum up, Dr Dahiya is caring, kind, funny, respectful, compassionate, gracious to name, but a few adjectives. Dr Dahiya is, in our opinion, a credit to his vocation and we hope to have many more years of consultation with him. Unfortunately, this disease is probably here to stay and I would not wish for any other Consultant to care for me.

I have been a patient of Dr Dahiya for many years. He is, kind, caring and considerate and always listens with empathy and understanding. Ten years ago after my symptoms were not responding to the medication I was on he suggested Rituximab. It changed my life! I would recommend Dr Dahiya to anyone, he is everything you could wish for in a doctor and is a credit to the NHS.

Dr Dahiya has given me life enhancing care and advice. Seven years ago I had the the start of osteo-arthritis in two fingers in both hands and in several toes. Everyday use like driving, cooking and walking were painful and awkward. Dr Dahiya prescribed pain relieving medication but said I could halt the advance of the condition through exercise. He prescribed going to the gym twice a week with a warm up routine of cycling or rowing followed by the weight machines. I could use light weights with many repetitions or heavy weights with few repetitions but, whatever I did, I was to finish every session tired so my muscles ached the next day - and the effects have been miraculous. My toes stopped aching and the pain never returned. The swelling on the finger joints stopped increasing and I can now straighten my fingers so that everyday jobs are easily accomplished and are not painful. I know it’s down to the exercise because on the rare occasions I haven’t been able to go to the gym for some 7-10 days my fingers start aching again despite the daily medication. I’ve lost a stone in weight, gained muscles I haven’t seen for 40 years and feel good for my 76 years. Dr Dahiya has a friendly professional approach with a real talent for explaining medical terms in using everyday language eg describing statins as akin to Calgon in a washing machine to keep the pipes clean is a great example. The theory behind the effects of exercise is very plausible - the micro-tears in the muscles caused by the exercise provoke the body to produce stems cells and this response helps repair damaged joints as well as muscles. I cannot recommend Dr Dahiya’s advice to take weight bearing exercise highly enough to anyone who has osteo-arthritis.

Dr Dahiya has been nothing short of amazing. We visited him when my husband was really quite poorly and the level of care we have received has been outstanding. He has navigated us through many tests, some quite scary, and has talked us through them all. His way of explaining what was happening to my husband was so clever and we understood every word. 4 months on and we have made fantastic progress thanks to Dr Dahiya and our lives are getting back to normal. We can never thank him enough and highly, highly recommend him.

I have inflammatory arthritis, which has been subject to regular flare-ups, that were getting more frequent. I saw Doctor Dahia in May 2022. He made a small change to my steriod medication and advised that I desist from prednisolone for flare-ups. He spent time explaining the potential benefits of taking regular exercise and advised on the type of exercise I could safely do (I am 72). He carefully explained how regular exercise acts upon the body and how to do it. His advocacy and presentation were so convincing that I made my mind up to take action. The following day, I started using an exercise bike. I could manage only 8 minutes at minimum resistance and clock a mile and a half. Using the bike each alternate day, within three weeks I could do thirty minutes at moderate resistance, covering six miles. I was staggered but delighted. I also started daily use of five-kilogram dumbbell weights to improve strength in my arms, shoulders and hands. A handgrip exerciser completed my routine. I decided to reduce my weight and lost ten kilos between May and the end of July. I am amazed by and delighted with the positive effect this has had. I feel so well, tasks that I had found difficult or impossible are now performed easily. I am once again able to enjoy my favourite outdoor interests. The cherry on the cake is that I have experienced only one minor flare-up, which lasted three days. This represents a dramatic reduction from a flare-up, lasting seven days at two-to-three-week intervals. Implementing Doctor Dahia's advice has improved my quality of life significantly. When he talks about taking appropriate exercise, listen very carefully. You won't regret it, I promise you.
