It took me 14 months to get from the GP to the rheumatology specialists. Once there the rheumatology team could not have been better. The professionalism shown by Dr Gunasekera and her team left me in no doubt that they knew what they were doing and that I was in good hands. The treatment that followed, while still ongoing, has changed my life and I am once again, mobile and able to enjoy walks and to continue caring for my wife. During my time with this Dr, she made sure that I understood the potential severity of my condition, but reassured me that the treatment, while not a miracle cure, should help a great deal. She put the facts over in a straight manner while demonstrating high levels of empathy and, for that, I thank her greatly.

I have been under Dr Gunasekera’s care since 2020 – my initial visit following my referral was at the height of Covid pandemic, where my initial consultation was by telephone that led to my first face to face visit a few hours later. Dr Gunasekera’s wonderful nature and pleasant smile always puts you at ease - from our initial discussions Dr Gunasekera has been an extremely patient listener and has taken the time to help me understand the condition being dealt with. She is extremely professional and never rushes appointments which are engaging, whilst checking if I had any questions and that I am comfortable. Dr Gunasekera is always positive, and enthusiastic to assist, her professional knowledge shines through - a lovely style that exemplifies core NHS values, a true role model.
