I Was booked for a Total Knee Replacement at The wonderful Springfield Hospital under the amazing surgeon Mr Palmer on 8th November 2022. From my first contact with Dr Hywel Jones he filled me with nothing but reassurance and confidence, putting me at ease. Like others have said in their reviews, having had a previous knee replacement, under general anaesthetic, I was concerned and scared at the prospect of having a spinal block, fearing I would be awake through the process, and from the off, I made Dr Jones fully aware that I wasn’t a ‘talker or a hero’, and I wanted to be asleep going in and awake and it was over!. Dr Jones, reassured me I wouldn’t be awake, but instead would be asleep and the recovery would be so much better without the sickness effects of a GA. Prior to operation, Dr Jones telephoned me at the scheduled time to go over any concerns I had, answer any questions and explain in detail his intended procedure. On the day of the operation, he was still as chatty, calming, reassuring to me, and I could not be happier at having Dr Jones as my anaesthetist, and could not sing his praises highly enough. Post op, I woke and said….”I’m awake” to which Dr Jones said…..”we are all done it’s over, I woke you”. Thank you, I am one grateful, happy patient doing exceptionally well 5 weeks post op. I have never reviewed this sort of recommendation , but felt others patients may get comfort and reassurance from it.

I have to say I am over the moon with the care and dedication that Hywel Jones gave to me when on the 17/11/2022 I had a complex Total Knee Replacement carried out by Mr Palmer and Mr Jones. Mr Jones, carefully explained what he was going to do and asked me lots of different questions also if I had any concern's. I did have a few questions for him and he went out of his way to answer them and totally put my mind at rest. His bedside manner was superb and no words really can described this amazing man. I felt listened to and totally at ease before the day of the operation and going into the theatre he pick up on my nerves and instantly went out of his way and instilled a sense that everything will go like clock work and it did. One minute i was awake, I blinked and 2 hours had past without even realizing, and I woke up in recovery in a very natural way. Now that was amazing.

I would like to thank Dr Jones for encouraging me to have a spinal injection for my knee replacement 25/10/2022. I was 100% against having a spinal injection for my operation but after speaking to Dr Jones who assured me that everything would be OK and my recovery would be much quicker instead of having a general anaesthetic. I would now recommend everyone to have a spinal injection plus as he puts it along with a gee and tee. Many Thanks Mrs Joan Gay
