I don’t know if my experience is unusual but my cataracts caused my sight to deteriorate very rapidly. I quickly became someone I didn’t recognize. Simple pleasures such as walking the dog, preparing a meal, watching a favourite television programme, going to an art class, enjoying the garden, walking down the street and greeting a neighbour, were all taken from me. Looking back I realise how difficult it was to interact with other people, as I was unable to ‘read’ their faces. Knowing how concerned my family and friends were for me was hard. I was in a very dark place.
Then a dear friend suggested that I should meet Tahmina and everything changed - extraordinary things began to happen in very quick succession! I was reassured that my sight could be restored by fitting new lenses in my eyes, and that it was a straightforward and pain free procedure. Tahmina, and her team, with their warmth, expertise and professionalism made it all so easy.
Now I‘m experiencing the best vision that I’ve had for over 50 years. I can see into the distance and happily read without glasses. I can drive again - I’m no longer trapped at home. I’m working on my fitness and taking the dog on long country walks without fear of falling over. The diary is full of social events, with neglected friends coming round for meals. I’ve started a new art class.
I love looking up at the night sky and seeing the constellations again, saying hello to the moon, watching the birds in the trees as well as listening to their song. The garden feels so wonderful now I can see it all again.
The very best though is the change in colours that I now see through my shiny, clear lenses! The world is so full of such beautiful shades that I haven’t seen for a while. I can gaze up for a long time just getting lost in the blueness of the sky.
As I write this I have a bowl of spring bulbs by my back door. The irises are in full flower – the bluest of blues with painted patterns of gold and white on the petals. Each time I look at them I give thanks to Tahmina as a few months ago I could not have appreciated their sublime colour or the intricacy of their petals. Spring is on its way and with it comes a newfound hope that my newly restored eyes have brought me. The winter darkness is turning to bright summer sunshine full of boundless possibilities.
What can I say... my eyes are welling up with emotion. I am a Northern lass and as we say up North.. "I am fillin' up!!" It is amazing and moving when I hear how very much of a difference it has made to their lives. I never thought for a moment that I would have the privilege to be be able to create this much change but I do honestly try to make that difference. Enjoy!!
I found DrPearsall a very warm down to earth person. I had a trab procedure done on Monday, I was naturally nervous , but we had great music playing. Beach boys, Lulu, Frank Sunatra and many more. This brought back memories of my going to discos and parties with the family. In the end I realised I was tapping my fingers in time with the music, and unaware what was taking place
I think the idea of enjoyable music a great help.
I think Dr Pearsall’s idea is a great one and recommend it.

Eye surgery can be so daunting and we try hard to make the experience as "pleasurable" as possible. I just love music - it has the power to move and change our emotions and I find it particularly important in occupying my patients and making them feel calm. So many of them tell me of the memories each song brings.. so I am glad you "enjoyed" yourself. The playlist is handpicked and created just for my patients..
Thank you and your team for the prompt and efficient cataract treatments that you undertook at Optegra clinic in Colindale, by referral from NHS.
I have not experienced any after-effects and my eyesight is much improved.
I suffer with Parkinson’s disease and was trembling throughout the surgical procedure, but there was no need for anxiety. My treatment was relatively quick, painless and appears to have been successful for both eyes.
I would recommend you to other potential patients.
It is not so easy to stay still and calm but you did well. So good to hear that all is well and we are certainly grateful of your thanks, reassurance to others and recommendations.
Very professional and at the same time friendly Doctor who was able to reassure me that my concerns were appropriately assessed.
Very pleased to recommend Ms Pearsall
It can be daunting when going for a medical consultation - you really are so reliant on the medical team that are there to support you - so I can assure you that we try hard to make you feel as relaxed as possible. :)
Excellent advice, really thorough & went out of her way to help me which was very kind!
Happy to guide and help any which way - sometimes when you are faced with that mountain of information it really is difficult to find the "wood for the trees"
