Saw Mr Sherief after requesting a second opinion in relation to neck and back pain. He listened to my concerns and requested mri scans. When the reports came in he explained them clearly, listing care options etc.

  • Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery

Profile

Having graduated from Ain Shams medical School in Cairo in 1991, I completed orthopaedic training for eight years at Ain Shams University Hospitals in Cairo with a main focus on spinal surgery. I was awarded MD in orthopaedics after completing a thesis on adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (spinal deformities) and passing the exit exam in 2000. I worked as Associate Professor in Trauma and Orthopaedics before moving to the UK in 2002. I have gained further advanced training in all subspecialties of Trauma and Orthopaedics in UK since 2002. Spending a period of two and half years of post-CCT advanced training fellowships in spinal surgery has added significantly to my experience. My fellowships were at James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough and at the Royal Derby Hospital training in the orthopaedic and neurosurgical aspects of the subspecialty from 2010 to 2013. I was appointed as a Consultant Spinal Orthopaedic Surgeon in June 2013 at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust.
During my years of practice I have developed wide expertise in the modern techniques in spinal surgery including microscopic key hole discectomies, non destabilising spinal decompression, spinal fusion using interbody cages and pedicle screws. I use the surgical microscope in all my spinal operations which is proven to increase the precision and reduce the complications risk. I am also competent in performing mini access percutaneous spinal surgery including balloon kyphoplasty and spinal fixation for fractures.

I have a number of international presentations and publications in the field of spinal surgery and in general trauma and orthopaedics, including some at the British Association of Spinal Surgeons (BASS) 2013 The Eurospine 2013 and more recently in the BMJ in 2016.

Specific Interests
