Previous excellent outcome with Mr Rajaratnam in 2012 was reason I sought his help again. Arranging latest consultation was quick and easy through Practice Manager including ensuring MRI completed before that first consultation. Pre op arrangements changed along the way due to COVID, all thorough and well documented. Surgery went smoothly. Post op contact as planned, face to face after 2 weeks and final review by telephone which I was happy to do, after 6 weeks. Rehabilitation with physiotherapist continuing.

I had my TKR done at the Horder Centre and could not fault my care from there or Mr Rajaratman at all. I would say though, I was advised to do the pre operation exercises as well as the post operation exercises and I am glad I did and do now. Due to this I am months ahead on my recovery I am told. It is a very difficult first 2 weeks for sure and during that time I questioned myself about my decision to have the surgery but I am past that now and have no regrets. I just wish having been told 3 years ago I was a candidate for a TKR by another surgeon but was considered too young at the time, that it had been done then having just watched the procedure being done to a 48 year old man on TV.

I originally had a TKR in 2014. The outcome wasn't that great with ongoing pain and whilst the knee is better than pre-op it clearly isn’t up to par. My experience with Sam has been magnificent. The whole process from consultation to my position now, which is 5 months post op, has been 5 STAR. The knee, whilst having some way to go before full recovery, now allows me to walk, cycle and I have started jogging. I have 2 ski holidays booked for this season and all bodes well! It is better than I had anticipated in spite of Sam’s amazing reputation. In case you didn’t know, this is a very painful operation so be prepared for discomfort on a major scale. I suggest you insist on a comprehensive pain management program which the Horder Centre, I felt, might have handled better. Don’t be put off by my comments about the Horder centre, it is a brilliant establishment providing care to a very high standard. Just next time, should there be one, more Oramorph please! Nov 2018

Mr Rajaratnam operated on my 86 year old mother's knee (arthroscopy meniscectomy and chondroplasty) and the outcome was better than we could ever have hoped. At such a good age, any surgery is a worry especially where a general anaesthetic is required. Mr Rajaratnam came to see my mother, father and myself before the operation and took the time to answer all our questions. He was extremely reassuring and really put us all at ease. After surgery, mum was able to go home the same afternoon (sitting in a car!) after Mr Rajaratnam had been back to see us all and make sure mum was well enough to go home. We had expected a possible overnight stay as well as side effects but mum was so well with minimal pain (literally a couple of paracetamol that afternoon) and was walking pain free within a couple of days. Thank you :)
