Having originally had a consultation with a neuro-surgeon in 2017, I was left petrified at the thought of the surgery they were advocating and determined to 'live with' my condition for as long as possible without having surgery. Early in 2023 my pain became so bad and with the increasing impact of limitations on my everyday life, I decided it was time to consider surgery again. Luckily for me, my previous consultant had 'disappeared' and after doing some research on alternatives, I came across Rodney Laing and had an initial online consultation. What a different experience this was......Mr Laing was very reassuring and down to earth. He explained clearly the procedure he felt would help my spinal stenosis (and reassured me that my other issue didn't need any attention as advocated by the previous surgeon), explaining in detail how this would be carried out and assuring me that recovery time would be relatively swift. From the very start I trusted Mr Laing implicitly. His professionalism and skills are well documented, but equally as important for me was that I had absolute confidence in the information he gave me and had no hesitation in agreeing to surgery in June this year. Within a couple of weeks I could walk without pain and three months later was back to doing other activities such as yoga and pilates which I had been unable to do since 2017, together with lifting and playing with my grandchildren. To say I couldn't be more delighted with the results of my operation is an understatement and I am very grateful to Mr Laing and his secretary Annie who had endless patience and was always willing to help with any questions or issues.

Mr Laing helped me get the right kind of advice regarding my medical issues, I had seemed to be getting nowhere until I spoke to Mr Laing. He got the ball rolling straight away and pointed me in the right direction. He is pleasant and easy to talk to making you feel at ease. If he feels he is not the right specialists for your condition, he will point you in the right direction to who is. I would definitely recommend him

I recently had an operation for decompression of spinal stenosis. At the first consultation Mr Laing explained the results of the MRI scan in clear, understandable detail and the procedure that would be followed. This was then confirmed by letter and good documentation. I was in hospital for just 30 hours for the operation and recovery. Mr Laing saw me prior to discharge to ensure all was well. The pain was minimal, the recovery and results were excellent with an immediate improvement. I would highly recommend Mr Laing for spinal neurosurgery.

I had worsening neuropathic pain in my right arm and both legs. In April I saw an ortho-spinal surgeon who offered me 2 operations; 1) Anterior discectomy, decompression and fusion ( including bone grafting)- cervical ( region 1 or 2 levels). 2) Primary posterior fusion decompression, discectomy lumbar region (1 or 2 levels). 2 weeks before operation no.1, I sought a second opinion from Mr. Laing. From my first consultation and post op follow-ups I have found Mr Laing to be professional, friendly, precise and clear. Mr Laing listened and helped me understand my MRI report. He told me the MRI of my neck is essentially normal, the MRI of my lumbar spine reveals narrowing of the spinal canal between L4 and 5. In May Mr Laing performed a minimal invasive decompression L4/5 operation on me. The surgery was successful and immediately post operatively I had no pain, all my pre op symptoms had disappeared. My recovery has been going well and 3 months later I am without pain and symptoms, even the weakness and pain in my right arm is gone! I have regained my life ( playing sports, walking, cycling and travelling). Annie (PA to Mr Laing) was very friendly and helpful in arranging all consultations and hospital admission, thank you Annie. I cannot recommend Mr Laing highly enough. Very glad I sought a second opinion from Mr Laing.

I considered it my extreme good fortune to have met with Mr. Laing when I did. I had met with another very good surgeon who unfortunately wasn't BUPA registered, I was then given a list of surgeons from BUPA who were and Mr Laing was the obvious standout in terms of his specialisations and experience. His PA Anne was amazing and got me into see him on the Monday, and then was extremely lucky to get a cancellation slot for surgery on the following Friday. He explained the procedure in very simple, matter of fact terms. Upon waking up from surgery, I noticed an immediate difference in my left leg. I stopped taking hydracodine after 3 days and the prescribed paracetamol after 7. I am eternally grateful to Mr. Laing and his extended team, and looking forward to regaining full fitness!
