During this year I have had both hips replaced by Mr Westerman. Right from my very first appointment with him I felt total confidence in the surgery undertaken and the aftercare. I initially went with horrendous knee pain. However he pointed out that it was indeed my hip that was the problem. On seeing the xray he was indeed correct and because of the serverity of the problem the only option was a total hip replacement cement . Naturally I was anxious but he installed confidence and calmness in this matter. He is also a stickler for cleanliness and hygiene which is perfect. Surgery went well and at all times I was informed on my progress and what to expect in recovery. After care was also spot on. Liaison with the physio department and a follow up appointment was carefully undertaken. Again total confidence and constructed advice was given to me. I decided to have the other hip replaced on Mr Westerman' s advice and I am in the process of my recovery now. I would not hesitate to have further surgery in the future if needed and if possible request Mr Westerman to complete the surgery.

Felt totally at ease from the first consultation with Mr Westerman to my last meeting today, to 'sign me off'! Everything was trouble free, even the dreaded epidural, which turned out to be a recommended procedure for any future operations. Hospital staff, room, food, etc. wonderful. I can't praise everyone concerned with my operation and aftercare enough. Thank you. Xxx

From the very first appointment I was impressed with not only his professionalism but his manner, I felt instantly at ease and this continued throughout. He treated me as an individual and not just another patient. The process was very swift and the result excellent. His team were also fantastic; especially the anaesthetist who catered for my fears of a previous bad experience elsewhere. Thank you Mr Westerman

I was shocked at the time when I found out I needed the hip replacement, it took me a while for the news to sink in. I'm only 46 and a very active person and enjoyed my sports, how would this be affected. So as you can imagine you think the worse and start trolling the internet to look at reviews to see how long hip replacements will last and what you can and can't do. A lot of these questions I expressed to Mr Westerman and he put my mind at ease straight away by explaining in great detail the benefits of a new hip and the pedigree of the type of hip I would have. He had an amazing positive attitude towards my case this really gave me confidence that everything was going to be fine and it was. He gave me the target of 6 weeks for recovery and I was actually fully off my crutches after only 4 weeks, light walks no lifting etc. During this time the physios were amazing in helping me get back to normal, trust them they know what you can and can't do. They gave me a set plan which I stuck to like glue low impact training, spin bikes and rowing worked well for me, swimming after 8 weeks, and now feeling the benefits. Everything was explained clearly to me from the start so their were no surprises and the operation for me personally was an amazing experience. I had an epidural so was semi conscious for the operation, you can listen to music if you want. I felt no pain or discomfort what so ever and it felt like 20 minutes rather than the 2 hours it actually took. I asked to see my own hip at the end, Richard explained to me where it had worn away, really interesting stuff. A bit weird i'm sure you will agree but when are you going to get another chance to see you own hip, my other hip is fine. From the nurses and his team in surgery to the staff and physios at the Meriden hospital I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism and care during my stay. I'm now 10 weeks into recovery and back at work, all is really good and should be back to running and normal activities in a few months. Regards Adam Dagley

He is pleasant and always gave the impression that he cares about you as an individual. From the first consultation to the last he made me feel confident and comfortable. I do not think he could do anything better. My operation went well and I was pleased I took the surgeons advice to have an epidural, after seeing people who had general anaesthetic. My recovery was so much quicker and less stressful. One recommendation I would make is that you take your music and earphone into the operating theatre.
