I had a very positive experience with Mr Niel Kang, we had an online chat and the meeting was very informative. I was happy to go over my xrays and confirm my plan of care. He is very polite and kind :)

Was treated by Mr Kang for a fractured clavicle. From the very first appointment, he was very clear, informative and courteous. He explained all the risks and benefits of surgery very clearly and allowed for the best option to be reached in partnership with myself as the patient. Following the surgery, Mr Kang was excellent at the follow-up appointments and always answered any queries I had. Would highly recommend!

On my last day skiing in Switzerland in December 2019 a minor fall severely shattered my shoulder. The ball joint of the upper arm develops, while in the uterus, in four parts that gradually fuse together. A four-part proximal humeral fracture such as I suffered means these parts come apart. It’s serious. The Swiss doctors were downbeat and their medical proposals for a Titanium replacement joint, dauntingly expensive for one such as I without medical insurance. It seems that successful outcomes average only 70% depending on the body’s ability to grow its own bone onto the prosthesis. I was able to take my scheduled flight home and duly visited Addenbrooke’s x-ray. This was all pre-Covid Pandemic but the NHS appeared sluggish and overwhelmed by winter flu cases. Timescales to consultation and operation were long, hampered by lack of bed availability, so I took my case to a private consultation with Mr Kang. Mr Kang proposed a solution and spotted an opportunity, by using NHS day surgery, to provide swift operating treatment without the expense of expensive private care. He speculated that, as I am a fit 60-year old, he could operate and discharge me the same day so avoiding the problems caused by lack of beds overnight. Mr Kang patiently explained the situation, obstacles, range of treatments available, and likelihood of a successful outcome. He quietly gained my confidence and I noted his review ratings are outstanding. His manner, approach and quite confidence enabled me to take a difficult decision. He encouraged me that, as I appeared to be very fit and healthy 62 year-old, my expectations for a positive outcome were probably much higher than national averages. He was able to identify an operating window so that the NHS could provide me with swift and effective treatment in an efficient and timely manner that I cannot fault, thus saving me a huge bill I have just completed almost 8 months post operation and physio-therapy, the latter being provided efficiently during Pandemic Lockdown via adapted sessions and phone consultations. I have maintained physical exercises and made good recovery to regain most of my arm mobility and strength. I was able to come off strong pain relief swiftly and ongoing discomfort is minor. I believe Mr Kang acted swiftly, decisively and efficiently in consultation and surgery and postoperative to ensure I made the best recovery my body is capable of using a steel / titanium implant with which I am very pleased. He demonstrated a calm, decisive professionalism in a pressured environment. Thoroughly recommend.
