After I was diagnosed with Spondylolisthesis several years ago, I have been in constant pain ever since. After receiving an epidural injection that eased the pain, I was due a second injection which was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. As I was due to start a new job and in a lot of pain, my consultant recommended Mr Gnanalingham. His secretary, Vaani, was extremely kind and efficient; I was contacted by ManchesterNeuro within an hour of reaching out to BMI Alexandra Hospital. To my surprise, I had an appointment to see Mr Gnanalingham just a few days later. The diagnosis and treatment plan were explained with clarity, honesty and kindness. He listened to everything that I had to say and was very understanding. No time was wasted in organising an epidural injection under sedation. Just two weeks later, I was at the hospital ready for the procedure. In the past, I had found the epidural injection particularly painful. Due to this bad experience, my history of anxiety and not being able to have a relative with me, I was quite anxious when I arrived in theatre. I had no need to worry at all; Mr Gnanalingham put me at ease straight away. His lovely, calm manner helped to calm me down before the procedure. I didn’t feel any pain and do not remember much from the procedure other than Mr Gnanalingham talking to me throughout and checking that I was comfortable. I am extremely grateful for ManchesterNeuro and would recommend Mr Gnanalingham to anybody with ongoing back pain or sciatica. Not only is he an extremely knowledgeable and a well respected doctor, but it is clear that the wellbeing of his patients is very important to him.

I sought Mr Gnanalingham care at Alexander Hospital, having experienced delays and confusion in progressing a diagnosis and treatment on the NHS. I was very poorly and in need of highly specialised exploration of my condition. I was immediately set at ease by a very kind, highly skilled consummate professional. He was reassuring, patient and thorough, explaining the complexities, options and process of getting me well again. He was always concerned about my well being, listening to everything that worried. He never rushed me - even when right at the 11th hour I was debating an alternate treatment! His receptionist was reassuringly accessible, professional and friendly. I highly recommend Mr Gnanalingham to anyone.

I am pleased to report that I am unable to comment on Mr Gnanalingham’s surgical technique as he will only use this if absolutely necessary. In my case, I was concerned that surgery may be recommended as I had severe nerve pain, weakness and numbness. He reassured me that the conservative approach of medication and physiotherapy would also give the desired outcome over time and they did !

I saw Mr Gnanalingham in February 2020 due to ongoing back problems. I found Mr Gnanalingham very approachable, polite and friendly. He organised a MRI scan and nerve conduction tests very quickly and then I saw him a week later with the results. Mr Gnanalingham was crystal clear in his diagnosis, communication and recommended conservative treatment for me and explained to me clearly the reasons behind choosing conservative treatment rather than having surgery. I had a steroid injection into back in March which was a great success. Due to lockdown, my two follow up consultations were done via telephone. Mr Gnanalingham’s secretary Vaani is very helpful, polite and friendly and can be contacted by either phone or email. Vaani will get back to you very quickly regarding any information that I needed. I receive my clinic letters via email within a couple of days after each consultation. I would highly recommend Mr Gnanalingham.

I would most certainly recommend Mr Gnanalingham to anyone suffering with back pain. In January of this year I could not stand or walk for more than 2-3 minutes without crippling pain in my leg which forced me to lie back down. Mr Gnanalingham was swift in arranging initial consultations and a scan. He was crystal clear in his diagnosis, description of my options, and his recommendation. Very importantly, he was tremendously understanding and responsive when it came to pain management in the weeks during diagnosis and before surgery - allowing me to at least get back to working and walking again. I'm now four months post-surgery, totally pain free without any drugs, and I'm back to walking, cycling, swimming and playing football with my boys as if nothing had ever happened.
