Mr Geoghegan put my shoulder back together after a road accident , he explained what he intended to do and put me at ease . I have nothing but respect for the treatment I received . I specifically asked to be treated again by Mr Geoghegan as the implant needed to be removed and following my second procedure by him I am happy to report no issues. I would happily recommend Mr Geoghegan for your specialist treatment you won't get anyone better .

He is a credit to his profession. I can't thank him enough for the care and pre and post surgery consultations and fantastic results after surgery.

Profile

I qualified from Nottingham University Medical School in 1997, and trained in Nottingham and at the Derby Royal Infirmary before completing an upper limb fellowship at the Wrightington Upper Limb Unit in 2008. I was appointed Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2009. My sub-specialty is shoulder and elbow surgery.

I undertake primary, complex and revision shoulder arthroplasty in the young and elderly, and regularly receive tertiary referrals from other shoulder specialists. I have a very large arthroscopic, arthroplasty and trauma practice. I also have a special interest in shoulder injuries as well as degenerative conditions of the shoulder and elbow.

I am currently the clinical lead for elective shoulder and elbow surgery at The Nottingham Shoulder & Elbow Unit, Nottingham City Hospital and the clinical lead for shoulder trauma at the East Midlands Major Trauma Centre, Queens Medical Centre. I set up and run the East Midlands Specialist Orthopaedic Network for Shoulder & Elbow Arthroplasty.

I am a Member of the National Centre for Sports and Exercise Medicine (NCSEM), at Loughborough University where I have a regular clinic. The NCSEM is an Olympic legacy project delivering education, research and clinical services in sport, exercise and physical activity. I regularly review elite athletes with sports injuries.

I have active roles in audit, research, teaching and training. My research interests include acute rotator cuff tears, shoulder injuries in athletes, proximal humeral fractures and shoulder arthroplasty. I am a Clinical Investigator for a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) shoulder studies. I regularly organise courses, lecture and demonstrate surgical techniques in shoulder surgery in the UK and Europe. I have been invited to give Instructional Course (Coventry 2017) and Masterclass Lectures (Glasgow 2018) for the British Elbow & Shoulder Society.
