My first enciunter with Mr Gibbs was when he performed a life saving and certainly limb saving operation on my right knee replacement which was infected with sepsis. This was a horrible experience and he dealt with the situation with expertise and sympathy. So I went back to him (privately) to the Montefiore Hospital for my left knee replacement ant a revision of th eright knee which was over 10 years old. Mr. Gibbs is rightly considered the best man around and I endorse this opinion whole heartedly. I am now in the sixth week after the right knee revision and am completely recoverd excep needing physio therespy to improve muscle strength in bothe legs, walking, swimimming and rowing machineinto action.

I was recommended Mr Gibbs by a friend who had recently had a knee replacement done by him. The speed of her recovery helped me make up my mind that I could no longer live with repeatedly falling over, finding steps progressively difficult and painful, and something had to be done! Because I had read so much as well as talking to a former patient, I don't feel I asked Mr Gibbs many questions, but everything about him gave me confidence, especially his humility and lack of 'consultant arrogance'! He summed up the limitations of my knee at a glance and by showing me the X-ray was sure I needed a total knee replacement (not a partial one as recommended by another specialist.) He is a very approachable man with a kind and humorous manner. ( I was eves-dropping early in operation room to banter!). It is now the start of week 8 and improving all the time. I have been able to resume tending my allotment (after 5 weeks!), being on my feet for hours at a time, weeding watering & harvesting fruit, and walking is at 3/4 hr. Yes I always overdo activity and have a poor following day, but so what? I am determined to go walking on the downs for several miles before long. Not kneeling yet but as soon as the scar heals Mr Gibbs assures me that too will be no problem. (the 'wound nurse' recognised my scar as one of Mr Gibbs as she says he uses glue not stitches and it heals much faster then other methods). I think robot assisted surgery may also speed up recovery time but not sure. NB I never did experience continuous pain with my knee before surgery, but Mr Gibbs tells me I had absolutely no remaining cartilage, so pain-killer use is not necessarily a good indicator. The new knee immediately felt so strong and stable that I have every confidence and have the second knee replacement with Mr Gibbs to 'look forward to'. Amazing treatment all round from Mr Gibbs and his team at the Nuffield. The first few weeks are painful but it is definitely worth it.

I recently had ACL reconstruction and Meniscus repairs carried out by mr Gibbs in May. It’s a big leap of faith putting your trust in someone you have never met before but after our initial appointment I felt very at ease and confident in his knowledge and expertise. I am now 2.5 months into my recovery and judging how well it is going and I am extremely confident that he has done an amazing job. Sports is a massive part of my life and this was unachievable for me prior to the surgery. I am now on the road to getting back to doing what I love, and following a comprehensive physio programme. Thank you James, lifesaver.
