My son and I had the delight to meet Mr Akrawi in April 2023. He was the 4th or 5th orthopaedic surgeon who had been consulted regarding my 14yr old sons previously undiagnosed leg locking incidents which had becoming increasingly problematic over a 5 year period. Mr Akrawi listened to both my son and I, and took a genuine interest in the history of his knees. Shortly after this meeting Mr Akrawi performed Meniscus and root repair surgery on my sons right knee in Raigmore Hospital. He clearly explained the plans for the operation which included a number of senarios and put us both at ease. He took time to answer both our questions regarding the treatment and rehabilitation. When entering theatre with my son Mr Akrawi told me personally he would take great care of my son and that I had nothing to worry about - a very personal touch that will stay with me - I felt great comfort in his words. After surgery, whilst still in the recovery room Mr Akrawi showed great passion in sharing the procedure detail and images with myself - which I found very interesting and helpful. 4 weeks later my son required additional unscheduled surgery to his 2nd knee - knowing this would be performed by Mr Akrawi delighted me as I knew he was in safe expert hands.

Mr Akrawi was my consultant and surgeon for a full right knee replacement in June 2022. I had been waiting 3.5 years for the op so was delighted to get it done. I suffer with psoriasis and this can be quite severe on my legs but Mr Akrawi came up with a plan to work with this and ensure the op was carried out with minimal risk of infection. The Op was carried out and went very well . Mr Akrawi was back in the ward that afternoon to check I was doing ok and to explain how the op had gone. I recovered well from this op and have great movement on my new knee. My left knee was also needing replaced so I was delighted that Mr Akrawi was going to be the surgeon to carry out this op. Mr Akrawi explained to me in detail that my left knee wasn't as deteriorated as badly as my right had been and therefore a partial knee replacement may be possible for it . He said he would have both options available to him during the operation . The op went as well as the first one and indeed I did get a partial knee replacement. My op was carried out early afternoon and I was good to leave hospital the next morning . That op was approx 5 weeks ago and my recovery has been excellent . I work outside on rough terrain so I am very hopeful to be able to going back to work full time at 8 weeks into recovery. I have a follow up appointment with Mr Akrawi before then to confirm that this will be ok . Mr Akrawi has a proffesional , positive , demeanour . After the op to encourage a good exercise regime on the road to recovery he said " I've put the new knee in you but right now it's still mine , you need to exercise correctly to ensure good recovery and when I see you have done this you can have it" I thought this was great encouragement to take with me after leaving the hospital.

Mr Akrawi treated my daughter due to an accident on her knee and surgery was required. I couldn't fault him at all. Explained everything clearly and was very thorough and credit to the NHS.

Dr Akrawi was very positive and thorough in his assessment of my knee. Dr Akrawi was very reassuring the day off the surgery. I have a huge phobia of hospitals and medical procedures. I have put off this surgery for twenty years because I faint with medical procedures. True to form I fainted when the doctor and nurse where trying to anaesthetise me, before going through to the theatre. I am sure most doctor would have sent me home and I would have been back on the list but Dr Akrawi cane through held my arm tight and the next thing I was coming round from the operation. I was absolutely delighted I had had the operation. The story gets better, I went in thinking I might have to go back for a second surgery on the knee depending how the procedures went. Nightmare. My first question was "do I need to go back for more surgery?" The answer was " No, and you have had three procedures in one op". You really cant get better then that. Within a week I was walking up three flights of stairs and back on the exercise bike. My knee fees very stable and has heeled fast. The treatment and care I have received throughout has been first class. Thank you.
