Had surgery in Raigmore Hospital recently, where all aspects of care were fantastic. The staff - from surgeons, theatre team and ward staff were all professional and caring. Well done NHS Scotland.
I have been seem by Raigmore Haematology for a year now and Neurology for 7 years. Just an awful service. Haematology have referred me four times now and they do not give complete information, Neurology don;t seem to understand the basics. If Haematology does not get the latest referral correct then my chances of surviving my very rare Lymphoma without serious complications or even death is low. There is no need for this, they just don't understand my condition or how serious it is. They seem to spend most of their time berating my husband who is trying his best to guide them and save me from harm. Every time I have a second opinion my husband and I get a very frosty and uncomfortable experience and it is evident that the correct information has not been given. I have not wanted to make this public but I complained over a year ago and still no reply and these consultants keep giving incomplete or in my view misleading information. I am not sure why, maybe because we complained? or they just can't be bothered? or because my husband seems to know more about my Lymphoma than they do? Please guys your actions are harming me so much, you have an opportunity in the latest referral to get this right and get me fully diagnosed and treated, why are you doing this>
I had a second knee replacement performed by Mr. Thangaraj in November of 2024.
I cannot praise him enough. He took such care and was so thorough with my care. I was in a single room in case of infection and he called in every day to see how I was progressing. The operation was a very complex one and I am very grateful to have had such an excellent surgeon. Raigmore is very lucky to have him.
I have just been for my checkup at 8 weeks post op and once again he spent time with me and examined my knee and saw my progress. He is now going to see me again in 10 months time.
I had my first ever stay in hospital for more than a day earlier this year, when I presented myself at Raigmore hospital outpatients on a Sunday evening in early May, with what I thought was appendicitis.
Having managed to negotiate my way to the duty doctor who fortunately was on the ball, I was soon admitted for processing (I had anticpated this being the most difficult part).
I was welcomed by the laconic Mr Wolf who decided that a scan was next on the agenda. This being a Sunday evening graveyard shift I had no real expectation of much happening that day.
However as a result of the scan Mr Wolf decided to operate that evening.
All the way through my stay in Ward 4 there was nothing to complain about(apart from the excess heat which made sleep difficult). The food was plentiful and tasty (they have Rizzas Ice cream!!!) I had already decided that I was getting home as soon as I could, and Mr Wolf was a great help in that regard, being willing to listen to, and take on board the patient's point of view.
It was only when I got home and did a bit of research that I discovered I had been treated by one of the finest surgeons in the country - and on a Sunday evening too!!
I have nothing but praise for the whole experience from start to finish. Thank you Raigmore Hospital.
Darryl Geegan- amazing nurse- absolute heart of gold, anyone with him as your care giver is very lucky.
THO1270517, .my wife and I on holiday in Scotland, admitted as an emergency patient, from start to discharge, Ambulance personnel amazing, AandE Amazing, Anaesthetist team Amazing, Surgeon's Amazing, High Intensity Ward Staff Amazing, Ward 4c Amazing
My family member was a patient at the Stroke unit ward 2A. Every single staff member on the ward was absolutely fantastic. All very caring and respectful to the patients , on top of delivering fantastic medical care. As a family member this was a very stressful period, and the staff made us feel very comfortable, informed and looked after. I could not say one negative thing about this unit. They are a credit to the NHS. Excellent team
I so appreciated the dedication efficiency and care of the 'Dream Team' for my Pre-Op Assessment Appointment last Thursday in the Anesthetics Dept at Raigmore Hospital.
Just being with you all was a tonic - thank you very much indeed.
All members of staff were very pleasant and caring. From the cleaners to the nursing staff, theatre staff and everyone else.
The only criticism I have was the pain I had after the operation. After the surgery I was seen by someone(can't remember her post title), but she told me the pain medication she had prescribed for me. One of the meds was Oxycodone and she said it was available on demand. At 11pm I was in a lot of pain and wanted to try to sleep. I buzzed for the nurse on duty and asked for more pain relief, the only time I had asked out-with regular doses and she told me I had to wait until 2am. That was 3 hours of chronic pain. I didn't want to say the Dr earlier had told me the oxycodone was available as required as I wasn't sure if I misunderstood. But I hadn't.
Also when I was discharged from hospital and had to travel 3 hours home. I was give 30ml of oxycodone, so being prescribed 4 x 3ml a day, this was only enough to see me from Friday to half way through Sunday, so I had to ring my GP to ask for another prescription on the way home.
I do feel I should have been kept in longer given the the distance I live from the hospital or at least have check that the pain was under control before I went home. I was in agony for the 1st 2-3 weeks.
Everyone at raigmore hospital made my stay relaxing and as comfortable as possible, great friendly staff
