I cannot sing Andrew Carrothers, and his teams, praises enough. I have recently had a total hip replacement, a shock diagnosis at the age of 51, following years of pain that I had put down to age related joint pain. As soon as I was told that I needed a total hip replacement, I knew I wanted Andrew Carrothers to perform my surgery, having seen him at work in the past. His secretary Carole, was just fabulous doing all she could to get me seen and operated on as soon as practically possible. Andrew himself is just a delight. Very empathetic, talks to you in language you understand, very positive and totally reassuring. 6 weeks post op, I am pain free, a new experience for me, walking virtually unaided, and with all hip restirctions lifted today am looking forward to my future with my new hip. I would recommend anyone facing joint repalcement surgery to also hire an S1 cryotherapy package from Physiolab. I had the hip package and am so glad I did. I used it 3 times a day initially to help manage swelling and muscular pain. Using my physiolab definitely enabled me to continue to do my post op exercises comfprtably, and has aided my swift recovery. Thank you Andrew Carrothers for my new lease of life.

At my first consultation with Mr. Carrothers, I arrived feeling apprehensive and rather demoralised. It had been a shock to find X-ray results showing my hip to be severely osteoarthritic. Mr. Carrothers was friendly and informal and appeared to be wholly concentrating on making me feel at ease. I was aware though that, at the same time, he was intensely focused on evaluating my symptoms. For example, he asked if I had had any falls. I started to reply that I had not, but when he responded questioningly I admitted that I had stumbled over my feet on occasion (one heavy fall had been in the middle of a busy road). I had secretly felt rather frightened by these falls. It was such a relief to be told that they were simply a result of my hip giving away. After ten minutes into this consultation I could see that I had probably been in denial for a couple of years, struggling at the gym and thinking ‘stretch more, stretch less’ or ‘walk more, walk less’. I am seventy two. However, throughout my twenties I did a lot of rock and ice climbing, which gave me physical confidence. Mr. Carrothers has restored that confidence. Ten weeks after a MAKO total hip replacement, his exemplary surgical skills and holistic approach have made my current aims – to walk long valleys, trek up hillsides and play with young grandchildren – directly achievable. Carrothers Orthopaedics is a great team. Some past experiences of surgery have left me with a dread of the after-effects of anaesthetics. Professor Mahroof was reassuring and understanding of my concerns. He listened carefully and explained what my spinal anaesthetic entailed. I was also very grateful for a clear and creative plan for post-operative pain relief. As my first contact, Carol Morse was kind and considerate. She patiently waited on the phone while I scrabbled through drawers looking for information that I should have had at hand, and took time to make sure my questions were answered fully. Finally, the whole Nuffield experience was outstanding thanks to the personalised care and thoughtfulness of the nursing staff and physiotherapists.

I am 74 and wanted to be able to continue an active lifestyle but was prevented from doing so by severe knee pain and reduced mobility. All aspects of the problem and the recommended surgery were fully explained to me by Mr Carrothers in a way that was easy to understand. His attention before and after the operation and help with recovery were exemplary. The Mako total knee replacement has proved to be better than my expectations and I can now play with my grandchildren, do Pilates, Zumba and aerobics and keep up with my husband on long walks - all without pain or difficulty. Yes, it has taken 18 months of work to get to this point but Mr Carrothers was straightforward about some of the discomfort I would face in the first six months and about the need to apply myself to appropriate physio and exercise. I am very grateful for the dedicated way in which Mr Carrothers and his team provided their excellent help and highly recommend Carrothers Orthopaedics to others.

Mr Carrothers recommended replacement of my damaged left hip with assistance of the Mako robotic-arm and my surgery was carried out on 24 May 2021 at the Nuffield Hospital. The operation was a complete success. Within two weeks I managed to walk with just one crutch and within three weeks needed no aid whatsoever. The professional care from Mr Carrothers, Dr Mahroof and the whole team was exceptionally kind and considerate in understanding any fears which I had and the helpful advice from Carol (Mr Carrothers’ Assistant) beforehand was particularly appreciated. The nurses, physiotherapists and all staff at the Nuffield deserve a special mention for their superb care and attention. All in all, it has been a positive experience for me and six weeks later I am walking normally with no pain or mobility limitation and I can drive again. I fully recommend Mr Carrothers and his expert team to anyone requiring this type of procedure.
