My new knee is a year old but I feel ten years younger. Not only can I scamper up and down stairs without a thought, I get can get in and out of the bath - something missing from my life for years. Walking over the downs with the dog does not require assessment of every step. It has given me confidence to take on new challenges. The journey has not been easy but, when the time comes for the other knee to be dealt with, I will be calling on Adrian Fairbank, whose skill and kindness and honesty were outstanding Thank you.

I have had two total knee replacements at Parkside Hospital, Wimbledon under the care of Mr Fairbank; one in January and the other in April. I wanted to have them done at the same time to get them over with but Mr Fairbank advised against. He was right. The left knee was replaced in January and with his skill and care together with my hard work in the hydrotherapy pool with the physios I was back playing 18 holes of golf in 8 weeks. In early April Mr Fairbank replaced my right knee, this time I knew what was coming and I knew what I had to do. It was just 6 weeks after the operation, again after hard work in Hydrotherapy that I was back on the golf course. As I write this in early July my knees and my life are so much better. No pain in either knee, I am still working out on an exercise bike to increase the flexion on both knees but that is fantastic as before my knees were replaced I could not use an exercise bike at all. I cannot praise the skill, professionalism and expertise of Mr Fairbank enough. Furthermore he is such a personable and lovely man. I can offer no suggestions for improvement, the nurses and physios at Parkside were excellent, perhaps the rooms at Parkside need a refresh as they are starting to look a little "tired".

I am recovering from my second total knee replacement operation under Mr Fairbank. I was dreading the entire process having never had a hospital stay or operation before. Under Mr Fairbank's care the whole process was very tolerable. His skill in performing the operations is a given but what was so special was the concern for my well being, his patience in answering questions and listening, and the very thorough follow up checks. I would have no hesitation recommending him and thank him for his care and making it possible for me to walk well again.

I first consulted Mr Fairbank about my painful knees in 2008 and he performed an arthroscope on one knee and on the other a year leter. The first operation was a great success and I was able to resume playing tennis, but while the operation on the second knee improved the situation somewhat Mr Fairbank did warn me that the arthritis was quite bad and that I would need a complete knee replacement operation at some stage. That point was reached last summer (2015) and after consulting Mr Fairbank again he performed the operation at Parkside Hospital in November. Everything from the pre-operation assessment to extensive physiotherapy post-op went very smoothly. The operation itself went well and I was impressed with the integrated services provided by the anaesthetist, all the nursing staff and physiotherapists. I experienced very little discomfort and could not have been cared for better. I do all the exercise routines prescribed by my physio and fully expect to be playing golf again in the Spring.
