I visited Mr Pellen at Spire hospital after suffering from an inguinal hernia, he recommended a laparoscopic repair, we then agreed a date which suited me for the procedure. On the day all went to plan the procedure took under one hour and I suffered no pain at all. I was very impressed with the time spent under Mr Pellens care and I 100% recommend Mr Pellen and his team. I

I was referred to Mr Michael Pellen recently as I had an inguinal hernia that required repair. From the first consultation, through the surgical procedure to the follow consultation last week I could not have been more pleased with the treatment I received under his care. Due to earlier abdominal surgery he explained at the outset that a laparoscopic procedure may be impossible and an open repair might be required. In the event by using alternative techniques he was able to perform the repair laparoscopically. My recovery was uneventful, I did not even need to take one painkiller (not even a paracetamol) there was virtually no bruising and only some very manageable discomfort. I would highly recommend Mr Pellen to anyone requiring hernia surgery.

Mr Pellen made me feel very relaxed, explaining everything in detail and gave me confidence to go ahead with the procedure. He completely understood the pain and discomfort I had been experiencing over the past few years, which was such a relief.

Mr Pellen was professional and approachable and kept me informed of what to expect from my incisional hernia procedure. My procedure was initially going to be keyhole surgery but Mr Pellen explained that it may be open surgery if it was not possible to do it by keyhole surgery. It turned out that I had several hernias and it had to be open surgery with a hospital stay. Following the operation Mr Pellen came to see me and explained clearly what he had had to do to fix the hernias and how he had reinforced with gauze to secure things. Again I was told what to expect regarding recovery and how to keep myself on a good path to recovery. My care throughout the hospital stay was excellent both from Mr Pellen, his team in the theatre and the rest of the staff on the ward. I had my 6 week check on the 22nd April and Mr Pellen was happy with how things have healed. Again he was professional, friendly and approachable and he answered all my questions regarding my future recovery. I was very worried about having this operation due to having contracted MRSA in a different hospital following a hysterectomy and was seriously ill. However, I am so relieved to have had it done and feel so much better now thanks to the excellent care of Mr Pellen and his team. Thank you again!!!

Mr Pellen is absolutely the doctor / surgeon that I could have wanted; I know it is a matter of 'luck' as to whom a patient sees in the NHS, but I was genuinely delighted. My consultation was very informative, efficient and friendly and I left that knowing that something was going to be done for my hernia. Come the day of surgery, I was delighted to learn that Mr Pellen was going to be my surgeon. The pre-op chat again left me knowing that I was in the best of hands. The operation went very well and I have to say I'm impressed with the lack of subsequent associated pain and the very neat job that he made with the incisions.....I reckon there'll be nothing to see in a few weeks' time, which will be another unexpected bonus. I am extremely grateful.
