I was seen by Dr Frances Klemperer on Friday 20th January 2017. I felt so connected and being understood clearly regarding my needs during my visit. Dr Frances has a strong ability to listen, understand, observe and find the best solution to assess a person`s state of mind and use a range of psychological treatments. This understanding emphasises the importance of a person's past experiences, family, culture, surroundings and work as well as any medical features.

Frances was immediately on hand when we needed her. She showed great care and understanding, and worked with us to help my friend who was in dire need. She was a GODSEND!

I have been fortunate to be given time by Frances Klemperer as a carer on several occasions when wrestling with the problems of my oldest son, who has had a serious and enduring mental illness for 20 years, now diagnosed as Paranoid Schizophrenia with affective issues. He also has drug abuse problems. She has done this in her own time as we are acquainted socially. Dr Klemperer has always been very patient in listening carefully to what I am worried about and offering very helpful comments to help me understand the context within which my son's care is managed, including on medications and their side effects, the legal framework and the social care aspects.she is clearly in top of her profession and has a very wide knowledge of the issues affecting her patients. Dr Klemperer has the knack of talking to you as if you will understand the issues, which is not always the case - doctors sometimes talk to Carers in a patronising manner and do not find time to explain things fully, whereas Dr Klemperer is just the opposite so that I found her comments made me feel as if we were co-workers in the difficult task of seeking to support my son in getting the best outcomes. France's Klemperer understands the feelings of a parent in the situation, where there is a long term chronic illness of this kind. There is a constant balancing act between helping but also encouraging my son to be as independent as possible, showing him love and hope but acting firmly and keeping boundaries in place ( he can sometimes be aggressive towards family members) and there is a huge confusion of feelings as we both age. Frances 'got' this very well, being sympathetic but also encouraging me to be realistic about what I could do. I am very grateful for the care and skill shown to me by Dr Klemperer.

Doctor Klemperer, consultant psychiatrist, seems to me to represent everything that is good about the NHS. Over the last few years she has helped me handle some personal difficulties on a number of occasions. I have always found her sympathetic and understanding. Additionally she has invariably found the time to fully understand the cause of the problem as well as providing constructive suggestions on how to deal with it. Despite the internal pressures within the NHS I have never felt that I received anything other than her full attention, as well as being impressed with her follow up communications. I have no hesitation in recommending her to anyone who needs help.

Profile

I studied medicine at Cambridge University and Guy’s Hospital, London.

I trained in psychiatry at Guy’s Hospital, where I conducted award-winning research, publishing in the British Medical Journal and the British Journal of Psychiatry.

In addition, I hold the Institute of Psychiatry's qualification in cognitive behavioural therapy, a field in which I am recognised by the Royal College of Psychiatrists as having special expertise. This combined knowledge of psychiatry and psychotherapy allows me to make comprehensive assessments of my patients’ life difficulties.

I have worked as a consultant psychiatrist in London and Brussels, with over 20 years experience as a consultant in general adult psychiatry.

I practice in the NHS in Westminster and in Kensington and Chelsea, am an honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College and have an independent practice.
