I liked his easy and clear approach in explaining the two options that I could choose from and the benefits/downsides of both.I ended up choosing an option I didn't even know existed and was very pleased with the outcome.David has a professional and clear approach, doesn't put pressure on you and took the time afterwards to come and see how I was and whether I was satisfied. I would recommend him. Thankyou.

I attended Worthing Hospital in September 2016 for a surgical procedure – a transurethral resection of my prostate, i.e. TURP. For this surgery, my anaesthetist was Dr David Uncles. I am 83 years old and the last year prior to 2016 when I had been an in-patient in a hospital was over 60 years ago. Nevertheless, I had few worries, but any worries that I might have had were soon dispelled, as a direct consequence of the skills and professionalism of Dr Uncles. Prior to going into the operating theatre, Dr Uncles discussed all relevant aspects of the surgery and the part that the general anaesthetic played in this procedure. He spent time and care to calm me as we moved towards the theatre, by talking to me about topics of mutual interest. After losing consciousness, the next thing that I recall was resting in a bed in the hospital ward, recovering. It could not have been better or easier; and in this Dr Uncles played a major part. Dr Uncles was calm and reassuring throughout the procedure. He is an excellent communicator with a fine bedside manner. Dr Uncles provided exceptional care – a truly world-class professional.

Prior to the operation, David Uncles explained all the procedures to me in a clear and calm way. I was very confident with him as my anaesthetist. We were chatting before I was given the anaesthetic and I didn't feel anxious at all. A good experience.

Dr David Uncles visited me just before my total knee replacement. He was reassuring and explained the procedure very carefully as I was apprehensive about receiving an epidural anaesthetic. He put my mind at rest and sure enough the operation went ahead without me being really aware of anything. After the procedure he popped by to make sure I was ok. I had no post op nausea and in fact enjoyed quite a substantial meal only a few hours later. I couldn't fault his care and attention. I can't think of anything that would have improved my experience.

Profile

I am a specialist Anaesthetist with interests in Obstetric, Ambulatory and Inpatient anaesthesia. I employ a variety of anaesthetic techniques including general or regional anaesthesia, although I often use them in combination to optimise and enhance patients' peri and post-operative experience.
I am dedicated to putting the patient first through the provision of safe and reassuring care delivered in conjunction with my colleagues and associates.
I was present at the inauguration of the Helsinki Declaration in June 2010. This enshrines the values essential to the promotion of the highest professional and safety standards expected of anaesthetists. It is my hope to match or even exceed the expectations of patients who place their trust in me.
